Mangan and Demetriou visit children's hospice

Shrewsbury Town players Mickey Demetriou and Andy Mangan visited Hope House Children's Hospice in Oswestry on Wednesday afternoon for a pantomime and to deliver presents to the youngsters.

Mangan and Demetriou enjoyed the hospice's version of Jack and the Beanstalk which featured well-known Christmas carols such as Silent Night.

The two players then donated 16 replica Club shirts to the children at the hospice, which they signed following the pantomime, and Shrewsbury Town Community Sports Trust have provided 48 family tickets to the hospice for the Sky Bet League 2 match at home to Wycombe Wanderers on December 28.

Mangan said: "The pantomime was brilliant! The way the people behind the scenes produced it was fantastic.

"It was really enjoyable to watch, the kids loved it and obviously me, Mickey (Demetriou) and Jamie (Edwards) loved it as well.

"Going to meet the kids is a massive part of what we should do as players. I've been to Hope House before and got to know some of the kids and parents."

Shrewsbury Town Community Sports Trust manager Jamie Edwards said: "The pantomime was really fun to watch.

"Micky and Andy both volunteered to be ambassadors for our work with Hope House so hopefully we'll be able to visit them a couple more times during the season.

"We've provided 48 family tickets which can go out to the people using the hospice over Christmas."

Shrewsbury Town Community Sports Trust teamed up with Hope House in October and has launched the ‘True Shrew’ challenge.

The aim of the True Shrew challenge is to engage supporters of the football club and hospice in a number of events to raise £20,000 for the two charities by the end of the 2014/15 season.#
