Midfielder Calls For More Clinical Finishing
"I was delighted,” added Black."I knew it was going to be tough being my first game in a long time and it will take me a couple of games just to get to the pace of it but I enjoyed it and I just hope I can get a run in the team and bring something different.
"As a player you’re always ready, I’ll never say I’m not ready. If the gaffer wanted to put me in weeks ago I was ready but he chose not to and I’ve got to appreciate that. But he put me into tonight and spoke to me and I’m ready 100% for any game.
"I want to start every week and it’s up to me to prove to the manager that I’m more than capable of going in.
"We’ve got a good bunch of boys and a lot of ability in the squad and some players are doing really well so it’s up to me when I get an opportunity, obviously the results not went our way but it’s a team game and we’re all in it together but obviously I want to push for a starting slot."
One positive from the defeat was the 65 minutes of match fitness gained by Black, who is now chomping at the bit to make his league debut.
“It was a great strike you know and I’ve heard he can pull a few of them out his bag and all credit to him for his work rate and I thought he’d done well tonight," he added
"It (their equaliser) was just slack and schoolboy stuff from us and it’s all about reaction after that. We tried to pass it and I think Jermaine was slow to react to it but we’ll rally round him and pick his head up and get him ready for the next game.”
But he insists that everyone will rally round his team mate.
The 30-year-old Scot was also disappointed with the manner of Fleetwood’s first goal, with Jermaine Grandison’s under-hit back-pass being allowing Ashley Hunter to equalise – especially after the fantastic strike from Junior Brown that had given his side the lead.
"I thought first-half we dominated and it was obviously being clinical in the last third,” said Black.
“We got the goal, some strike, but I think we could have killed the game off in the first-half with the chances we’ve had. It’s just finding that belief inside the box and killing teams off and if we can find that cutting edge then I’m sure we’ll be successful.
"They had chances in the second-half. They came out of the blocks and we knew they were going to as we won the first-half and it’s a game of two halves.
"Our aim was to go out and not get beat in the second half but I do believe in the first-half we could have killed the game off and enjoyed the second-half.
"Credit to the boy it was some strike. They came back and fought away but I think we deserved the win but we just weren’t clinical enough.”
And Black, who made his Shrewsbury Town debut on the night, believes his side need to start putting more of their chances away.
Town enjoyed the better of the chances in the first-half but were made to pay for not killing the game off as Fleetwood came back to win the game thanks to a stoppage time strike from former Town loanee Bobby Grant.
