Ian Black Signs Two-Year Deal

14 September 2015

Former Rangers Midfielder Joins Shrewsbury

"I believe the gaffer will get the best out of me and I am delighted with that. I like a tackle, I have always been brought up to win the ball. That’s a mentality I have and I won’t change it so hopefully that can be a great asset to the team."

"I want to be a part of achieving something at every team I have been at, promotion is the aim here.

"It didn’t take too long to sort this move out which is great so I can just focus on my football.

"Overall I am delighted to be here and hopefully I can help bring success to the club.

"The spirits are high here at the moment and there is no reason why the boys shouldn’t be thinking of promotion as the overall aim."

"From the moment I met him I knew the gaffer would be good. He is straight talking which is how I like it and he doesn’t shy away from a confrontation, I think that is a Scottish thing!

"I like to be told honestly how I am doing. If I am not performing well then I like to be told because you need to be truthful with yourself to improve and help the team.”

And having worked with manager Micky Mellon during his trial period, Black is now looking forward to working with a fellow Scot. “I am an all-round midfield player. I always give my all no matter how the game is going."

"I am going to come down and work hard and really enjoy it. I know there will be competition for places still and I am looking forward to that challenge.

"The team have been doing brilliant recently so I don’t expect to walk into the team, it will take time and I will have to take my opportunities.”

Black insists he is looking forward to working hard and fighting for his place in the team. "My main aim was to get somewhere back in England and so I am delighted to have ended up here."

"I came down early last week for a few days training and after meeting the gaffer and listening to his plans, I was really keen to join here," said Black.

"Straight away I was welcomed by all the staff. It is like a little family club with everyone seeming to stick together so that’s great for me."

"I’m quite fortunate that my wife is from down south so she is delighted to be moving back into England.

And Town's new signing admits he was keen to make the move further south following his spell in Scotland.

Black has also been capped for Scotland at international level and has made over 300 appearances throughout his career so far.

The 30-year-old, a former Rangers player, has been on trial with the Club and how now signed a two-year deal with the option of one further year.

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Ian Black on a two-year deal.
