"I talk to the players all of the time about game management. I thought there were two key incidences which we didn't manage and it led to their two goals.
"We allowed them back into the game when we went 2-0 up, and against better opposition it could have caused us problems."
Dawes said:
The only downside to the win was the two goals Town conceded - one coming after Shrews had taken a 2-0 lead and the other when Morecambe made it 6-2.
"I thought it was very positive from our players, technically and tactically, we were very good," said Dawes.
"In and out of possession we worked really hard after being lethargic against Bury.
"We looked sharp, physical and at it (against Morecambe) and fully warranted the 6-2 win.
"If anything, we could have scored even more at the end because we created that many chances.
"I thought our strikers worked really hard and the movement was good. When we got in good areas the final pass was a key pass and we took a lot of our chances."
And Dawes felt his side could have scored even more against their opponents on the day.
Four goals from Jordan Wilson and one for each of Kaiman Anderson and Nathan Millis gave the young Shrews a comfortable victory at Shrewsbury Sports Village.
Town's Under-18s had slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Bury in their preceding Football League Youth Alliance - North West league match but responded in style against the Shrimps.
