KS2 Tournaments Took Place In South Shropshire

"We've seen our 300 children this week taking part in the different competitions and some of the play we have witnessed has been brilliant," said Steve.

"To be able to support tournaments like this has been great. We want to be involved in as many community sporting events as we can and this is just the beginning of that.

"Credit must go to coach Ryan Lockley who worked extremely hard to make the tournament was a success.

"His expertise in cricket was instrumental in ensuring each tournament ran smoothly.

"Congratulations to all the winners of both team and individual awards and we wish them good luck for the County Finals in the coming months."


South Shropshire Community Development Manager, Steve Brotherwood, was on hand to hand out the awards and he was impressed with the skills on show.

Jack Condliffe from Ludlow Juniors (A) was awarded player of the day for the impressive way that he led his team as captain and also some fine bowling in some high pressure situations.

Ludlow Junior School (A) finished in second place with St Lawrence Primary, Church Stretton finishing in third place.

St Laurence, Ludlow (A) were victorious in a fiercely fought competition which saw five teams play each other once in a league style format.

The final tournament of the week took place on Thursday at Ludlow Cricket Club where the Year 6 South Shropshire champions would be crowned.

Player of the day was awarded to Dale Bright of Norbury Primary who impressed with his energy and enthusiasm to the game.

St Georges Primary in Clun defeated Norbury Primary in the third-placed play-off game to secure their first top-three finish at the tournament.

Will Langford produced some fine hitting at the top of the order to post an imposing total in which they were able to defend to secure their third title in as many years.

Bishops Castle (A) were triumphant in defeating Chirbury in a closely fought and entertaining final.

Bishops Castle Cricket Club hosted the second tournament of the week with a mixed Year 6 competition taking place throughout the day.

Player of the day, however, was awarded to Beth Rawlinson of St Lawrence Primary in Church Stretton who shone with a scintillating display with the bat.

St Laurence (A) in Ludlow finished in third place with Kate Brazier impressing with both bat and ball throughout the day.

The opening tournament took place at Ludlow Cricket Club on Tuesday where St Lawrence Primary in Church Stretton defeated Bishops Castle Primary in an exciting final to win the year six girls tournament.

Three tournaments took place with the winners each receiving a place in the county finals in Shrewsbury in June 2016.

Shrewsbury Town in the Community were delighted to support The Shropshire Cricket Board in delivering Key Stage 2 primary school cricket tournaments within South Shropshire.
