"The guys all got to walk round the pitch and got some more donations in the bucket.
And on the mission of creating awareness, Aiden was thrilled with how the people of Shrewsbury supported them during their walk.
“It went really, really well. The kids turned up with a smile on their face even though it rained the whole time.
"Some of the kids got tired halfway around but they all seemed to power through and it was great to see them all finish.
"It was great for the gaffer to come out here as well and say well done as well as having Weso out on the walk with us." He said:
Shrewsbury Town in the Community's health and inclusion officer Aiden Wassell was instrumental in organising the walk and he was delighted with how the day had gone.
"I think this is something footballers should do more because we have quite a bit of time on our hands and if we are in a position where we can help people so we should do as much as we can. It’s a great opportunity and I’m happy to be here."
"Thankfully we have Martin Smith (Community Volunteer) being our stand in lollypop man so he’s keeping everyone safe on these busy roads.
"No one seemed to struggle and although the pack was sometimes stretched, everyone helped one another out.
"It’s easy doing something like this when it’s for such a worthy cause," said the Australian.
"It was cold but I really enjoyed it.
Despite being out injured, midfielder James Wesolowski showed his support for the cause by completing the walk, accompanied by his two dogs, and continuously posed for photographs and chatted to fellow walkers.
Players, parents, staff and volunteers all took part in the walk prior to the Shrewsbury home fixture with Gillingham and, despite the poor weather conditions, managed to make their way to Oteley Road where they were greeted by a warm and well-earned handshake from manager Micky Mellon.
Over 40 people took part in a 2.2 mile walk from the site of the old Gay Meadow to Greenhous Meadow to raise awareness and funds for the Shrewsbury Town in the Community disability teams on Saturday.
