Shrewsbury Town in the Community is the charity of Shrewsbury Town Football Club and our aim is to ensure that people of all abilities are able to fully engage in sport to fulfil their potential in a fun and inclusive environment.
“My biggest challenge will be in April when I take on the ‘Snowdon Adventure’ which will involve me cycling for 20 miles, trekking to the top of Snowdon and then canoeing across a lake, all in 12 hours.”
“I have not had the best of luck with injuries over the last 15 months and I am disappointed I have not been able to make the contribution to the club that I wanted to when I first joined Shrewsbury Town Football Club," said Wesolowski.
“With this in mind I have challenged myself to raise money for the Club’s fantastic disability programme delivered by Shrewsbury Town in the Community.
“My fundraising will begin when I join the disability squads on their sponsored walk from the site of the old Gay Meadow to Greenhous Meadow before our home fixture against Gillingham FC on Saturday 28th November 2015.
Shrewsbury Town midfielder James Wesolowski, who has been ruled out for the majority of the season through injury, is keen to make his mark in the community with several fundraising events.
“This walk aims to raise much-needed funds and also the profile of the disability football teams we have.
"We are keen to offer football to people of all abilities and the positive feedback we have already received from participants and parents about our coaching sessions simply inspires us to grow this programme.” Shrewsbury Town in the Community manager Jamie Edwards said:
We invite you to support our cause by any media means possible in order for us to raise money as well as the profile of our disability sports and can offer up interviews before, during and after the event with anyone involved in the walk.
The participants will be raising money through sponsorship forms, a JustGiving website and through bucket collections both during the walk and from buckets placed in certain public houses (to be collected en-route to Greenhous Meadow).
The walk is raising much-needed funds for Shrewsbury Town in the Community to continue efforts to provide disability sport to everyone in Shropshire and make these sessions sustainable for the long term.
The members of the Cerebral Palsy team will be walking from the Brooklands Pub where the rest of the group will join them before making their way together to the Greenhous Meadow prior to the kick-off.
It will feature participants of the Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and Short Breaks teams as well as their parents/guardians, staff of Shrewsbury Town in the Community and Shrewsbury Town footballer James Wesolowski.
The walk will take place at 12pm on Saturday 28 November (prior to the Shrewsbury Town v Gillingham match at Greenhous Meadow).
