Autumn Group Complete Four-Week Experience

I’ve done things I’ve never done before or even thought I could do. You learn so much like how to be a better person and not to give up and I’d happily do it all over again.
“I don’t want this to end here. I’m hoping to volunteer to be a member of staff on this next course as I feel so strongly about people our age doing this.” He said;
Declan Johnson, 17, from Shrewsbury won the Outstanding Contribution Award to the NCS course was equally proud of what he and his fellow graduates achieved in the past four weeks.
“We had three really intense sessions where we chose our charities and discussed why we chose them, what we were going to do and how to go about it.
“We had to sort out licensing, risk assessments, speak to councils and charities. The guys went from there and did three events including a five-hour spinathon, a 10km colour run and even sitting on 9875 seats here at the Greenhous Meadow.
“We also held coffee mornings, car boot sales and bag packing.
“A lot of planning goes into these events and it needs to be that way to ensure the young people get the best experience possible from this course and when you see them all now you can’t help but feel really proud of all of them.” Miss Hibbert, 24, said:
NCS Coordinator for Shrewsbury Town in the Community Jade Hibbert was proud at seeing how far everyone had come in such a short space of time and the effort they had all put in to raising money for some great causes.
As well as having fun and learning about team work, they were all heavily involved in creating, running and managing their own social action project and whilst doing so, raised £1900 to be spread over six charities – Hope House, Asthma UK, Severn Hospice, Help For Heroes, Epilepsy Sucks and Mind.
The youngsters, whose ages ranged from 15-17, took on an array of challenges which included kayaking, rock climbing, drivers’ awareness and self-defence lessons from 2006 Commonwealth Judo Champion Tom Davis.
Proud parents and distinguished guests including the Mayor and Mayoress of Shrewsbury oversaw the presentation for the 37 graduates which included a buffet, disco and a presentation of their certificates from the Mayor.
Autumn group saw their four-week experience come to an end at Greenhous Meadow on Wednesday evening in front over 160 people.
