The regional final stage will take place on the weekend of 27 and 28 February.

“It was a good team performance as we only had five players throughout the game, but we deserved to win it in the end.

“We look forward to taking part in the regional finals.”
Shrewsbury Town in the Community volunteer Martin Smith, who took charge of the walking football team on the day, said:

The Shrewsbury Town walking football squad on the day included Tony Blaecke, Charlie Auld, Clive Stanley, Terry Jones and George Buckley.

The Shrews were then victorious on penalties in the final against Shrewsbury 99’ers. After a 3-3 draw in normal time, Town won 3-2 on penalties to reach the regional finals.

Town then beat Birmingham Beechcraft A 6-4 before a 3-1 win against Birmingham Beechcroft B in the semi-finals.

The event, held at the Lucozade Powerleague Shrewsbury site next to Greenhous Meadow, saw Shrewsbury draw with Hereford (5-5) in their opening game.

Shrewsbury Town in the Community's walking footballers have reached the regional finals of The FA People’s Cup 2016 after success in the first stage on Sunday afternoon.
