Grandison On Southend United Clash

Defender Looking To Build On Barnsley Win

“I think we can do very well this season,” he said.

“I think that we've got a very good set of players and I think that we should be aiming for play-offs with what's in the dressing room.

“We've played a few of the so called favourites to go up, and we've done very well and probably should have beat them.

“We are definitely aiming as high as we can, and trying to get up the table and see where we end up.”

Now one of the longest-serving players at the club, Grandison believes the current squad should be aiming high for this season.

“When I came here on loan they put me at right back, so I was playing right back (and) people didn’t really know where I was playing, but, since I was 18 it's always been centre back, where I wanted to play.

“I’m just really enjoying it, and centre back is definitely my position now.”

“I think it (centre back) was always going to be my position, but I think I was doing a job out on the wing, and because I was quick I was quite good at it!," he said.

"But I think I was always going to be a centre back, and I just needed a good run of games at centre back to obviously start learning the position more and getting better and better.

Grandison, 24, has found himself playing in the heart of Town's defence this season, and spoke of how he wants to stay there.

“It's always a tough place to go, to be honest. They work hard, but I think we are prepared for them.

"We've been working on it in training, so we're just going there to get the three points.”
On the threat that Southend will pose, he added:

"I think it was really important (the win at Barnsley), we were waiting for a win, we were having a few good performances, so we were all happy to get the win.

“We've been disappointed for the last few weeks, with results not going our way, but we got the result the other day and everyone was buzzing, and had a good weekend.

“It does play on your mind a little bit, and a first win is important because it kick-starts your season, so I think we're just happy to get it now, and we need to go and get a few more over the next few weeks.

“Everyone's delighted, and we need to do it again now on Saturday."
He said:

And Grandison feels the first win of the season can really help kick start the season.

The injury-time win at Oakwell last week is followed by a trip to Southend United on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Defender Jermaine Grandison was delighted with Shrewsbury Town's first win of the season at Barnsley and is now hoping for another three points on Saturday.
