Convincing win for Evans' side on Sunday
A fantastic performance from Shrewsbury Town Ladies against a very strong Burton Albion team on Sunday gave them a resounding victory in the top of the table clash at London road.Two goals for each of Natalie Turner and Natasha Broome (2), and one for Tania Prior, Daisy Bradshaw and Olivia Minshall, gave Ladies side a high-scoring victory.
The win keeps Town at the top of the Staffordshire County League.
Town started the game in control with some excellent football on a very heavy pitch, putting Burton under alot of pressure.
The Ladies then took the lead through centre back Tash Broome who rose highest to meet a Penny Owen corner and head home, a lead they deserved.
Burton were back on level terms shortly after a Town breakdown in play saw the Burton player finish well, lobbing the ball over goalkeeper Beth Cleveley.
This did not faze Town as they quickly got back in control of the game.
The second goal for Town arrived through striker Nat Turner. It was an excellent finish after a great ball through by Beth Francis to set up Turner to slot cooly past the on rushing keeper.
The third goal came just before half time again from in form Turner. After great link up play between Cox, Sewell and Bradshaw the latter sent a ball through for Turner to be one on one to finish it off to give Town a 3-1 half time lead.
Second half and Burton started the better of the two, taking the game to Town.
15 minutes into the second half, Burton got a second when Town failed to close down the player who hit an excellent 25-yard shot into the top corner, giving Cleveley no chance in the Town goal.
The goal sparked Shrewsbury back into life and five minutes later they got the two-goal advantage back with a second goal of the day for Broome.
Another excellent delivery from Owen found Broome at the backpost to finish with a bullet header.
The momentum was back with Town and they dominated the final part of the game.
Further Town goals came through Tania Prior, Daisy Bradshaw and Olivia Minshall with her first of the season which completed the scoring for Town and gave them a confortable victory.
Before the game both teams observed a minutes silence to pay their respects to BALFC player Lydia Bennett who sadly passed away.
The game was played in a great sprit and one that Lydia would be proud of.
Ladies manager Sean Evans was delighted with the performance from his side.
"I'm unbelievably proud of everyone," said Evans.
"Everyone knew it was a big game for us, there were a few nerves out there.
"Burton came into the game after a horrible few weeks for the club after the tragic loss of Lydia Bennett, so we knew they would be up for the game.
"The Burton team were a credit to themselves and their club.
"I have a lot of respect for what Adam and everyone at BALFC have achieved over the last two years, it definitely is something for us as a club to aspire to.
"We scored some quality goals which is pleasing to see us take the chances.
"The most pleasing aspect of the match was the desire to dig deep and work hard as a unit.
"We let them get back into the game after half-time which was disappointing.
"At that point we could of lost momentum but we got ourselves together and produced a cracking end to the game.
"It's great to see the table as it is. The hard work has to continue so we need to get ourselves up for another tough away trip to Lichfield next week."
