Keeper Speaks About Competition In GOal
“It depends on how brave you are I suppose, I like to get in amongst it and if you get hurt you get hurt, dust yourself down and get on with it, it’s part of the job that I enjoy as well; however I think you’ve got to be in order to be a goalkeeper haven’t you.”Finally, we asked Mark how tough it must be, being a keeper injury wise how they are right in the thick of it with boots flying etc and most importantly do you need to be brave or mad.
“He’s a difficult man to oust, he keeps on getting clean sheets which is slightly annoying for me but all I can do is concentrate and keep on doing what I’m doing, so when the chance does come I have got to be ready. It was made clear there is two of us and obviously I’m disappointed not to of started a game yet but like I say all I can do is work hard and improve myself day in day out.”
Talking about the man keeping him out the team; Jason Leutwiler, we asked Mark how is dealing with being second choice at the moment and the battle between the two men in order to be number one.
It’s a bit of a cliché to say that every game is difficult but it can be said that every game has its own test and it seems that our goalkeeper feels the same; “Yes, every game does have its own individual tests and especially at home as were unbeaten, so teams are coming here and sitting in against us. It’s down to us to break those teams down and we have got to be patient and not get frustrated with it. Every test is different but we have a plan and also believe in our ability that we will break teams down.”
“The team is doing well in the league and we are up to 3rd again, obviously we had a couple of not disappointing but so and so performances, however after Saturday we feel a little bit back on track and hopefully when we play Stevenage we can pick up another 3 points.”
Talking about last Saturday’s match against strugglers Hartlepool and the team in general, Mark had this to say: “It was a good performance and I thought they did really well considering they’re bottom of the league and I was impressed. However, I think as soon as we got the first goal we never really looked back.”
