Matt Williams Hails Shrewsbury Town's Promotion
"We still have one game to go with the chance of winning the league," he said."Hopefully Burton will slip up at Cambridge and we can nick the title, that would be the icing on the cake, but it has been a magnificent season regardless of the outcome of Saturday."
And Matt has his fingers crossed that the U's can do Town a favour at the weekend.
Victory over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday and anything less than a win for Burton Albion at Cambridge United would see Shrews pinch the trophy on the last day.
With one fixture left of the season now, Town still have a chance of winning the Sky Bet League 2 title.
"It's got to be my biggest achievement because I've come into a football club as a chief executive for the first time and it couldn’t have gone any better," said Matt.
"To come into a club that's been relegated and be stood on the penultimate day of the season having being promoted has to be my biggest achievement.
"But it's not about me, it's about Shrewsbury Town and keeping the club moving forward.
"We've got a great set of supporters here and it is days like that which make you realise how much Shrewsbury Town Football Club means to so many.
"It's been a fantastic effort. You have to congratulate Micky, Mike Jackson and the rest of the coaching staff as well as the players and credit has to be given to the chairman and the board of directors for the support that they've given.
"He (Micky) has been magnificent. When I came down to see the chairman at the end of last season we discussed potential managers and I suggested that he should have a coffee with Micky Mellon who was someone I knew well.
"He did a fantastic job at Fleetwood and put a football club into the community. He was unfortunate to leave Barnsley after doing a great job at Oakwell.
“I spoke to him in the press room at Elland Road while he was doing some media work and he spoke about a lot of things he had learnt while being out of the game.
"He had spent time learning how some of the biggest companies in the world work as well as taking inspiration from other sports on coaching and management techniques.
"Micky's approach to recruitment in the summer was completely different to a lot of managers.
"He actually treated the recruitment as a job interview and sat down with probably 60 or 70 players, to get the 18 that we did, because he felt that he wanted to see them and make sure that they bought into the way that he wanted Shrewsbury Town to move forward.
"He wanted hungry people who were coming to Shrewsbury for the right reasons.
"That's paid off. There aren't any cliques in the dressing room and we've got a great group of lads who all want to improve and make Shrewsbury Town better."
And the CEO has praised the support that chairman Roland Wycherley has provided for manager Micky Mellon through this promotion-winning season.
Matt was an integral part of the set up at Bloomfield Road and saw the Tangerines rise from League One to the Premier League before deciding to take on a new challenge in Shropshire at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.
Matt started his role at the Greenhous Meadow last summer, after moving on from Championship side Blackpool, and has worked incredibly hard with everyone at Town to ensure the club made an instant return to the third tier of English football.
