And having now kept 20 clean sheets for the season, Micky was delighted but is targeting even more.
"I'm really pleased for him, but more than that I'm pleased for the team. It was a really good header from him.
"He's technically very good and has a good eye for goal, so it gives you an opportunity to get another goalscorer on there." Speaking about Vernon, Micky said:
Striker Vernon made his first start since 3 January and responded with a headed goal in the 48th minute to double Town's lead.
"It was another hard-fought game against a team who came here with a game plan to try and probably frustrate us and make it very difficult for us, and at times they did that," said Micky.
"I think when we got that first goal, and scored again to get the second, we pretty much controlled it then up until they started to leave it as two v two at the back which is hard to play against so every credit to them.
"They made it very difficult for us in the last 10-15 minutes but I said to the boys that it's going to be like that at this time of the season.
"If you're the one holding the prize at that stage then you have to work hard in those vital moments and defend well in the box, and we did that.
"It was good to get the first goal and get in at half-time a goal up.
"We spoke at half-time about certain things we wanted to go out and do, and we did that."
And Micky believes his side went on to control the game after getting their second while also defending well to see out any danger from the Wombles.
Goals either side of half-time from skipper Liam Lawrence and Scott Vernon kept Town at the top of the Sky Bet League 2 table for the time being.
