Manager's thoughts ahead of U's trip
Manager Micky Mellon hopes Shrewsbury Town can bounce back from their FA Cup disappointment to overcome Cambridge United in Sky Bet League 2 on Saturday.
Town visit the U's Abbey Stadium this weekend (3pm kick-off) looking to keep up their challenge at the top in the league.
Although Micky is taking nothing for granted as his side go in search of a third away victory of the season.
“They (Cambridge) have a great attitude as a group," said Micky.
"They have won a lot of games at home in the last few seasons after getting promoted so we will have to go there with the right mentality.
“It will no doubt be a tough game, they're doing very well.
"It is a very tough place to go. They are very competitive and we know Richard Money (Cambridge manager) will have them well organised."
"All the warning signs are there so we know we need to go down there with the right attitude and mind-set to take part in a very difficult game, but it is one we are also looking forward too."
And Micky is optimistic that the frustration of the narrow defeat against Preston in the FA Cup will motivate his players even further.
“We were unlucky (at Preston) and we're obviously disappointed, but the performance, especially in the second half, was very good," said Micky.
"The lads were obviously disappointed not to be in the hat on Monday but we will now have to quickly move on and take the lessons from that game and put them into training this week as we start to build towards a the game at Cambridge."
And with the busy Christmas period ahead, Micky is certain that, if his side adapts their game the way they have done so far this season, they can get a positive amount of points.
"It is always a really important period of the season and you know it is a time in the season where you want to come out with a good amount of points," said Micky.
"We want to be physically and mentally ready for the tough period ahead.
"But we have our principles in the way we want to play with and without the ball, and as long as we're aggressive and we do the things we're good at and work hard to make sure that happens, we will be more than fine."
