And having held his pre-match press conference at Nesscliffe Training Area, Micky added:“We’re trying, because we’ve got to the stage now of losing, especially Connor (Goldson) out of our back four stroke back five that we have been able to switch between, a real leader in there.“We are maybe looking to strengthen in that area, a good communicator and a leader that can martial that back four, that can keep the distances right and pull people across because I think that’s what we’ve been missing.
“We need that kind of character back in that back four, back five that we have missed with the loss of Connor. It has been a massive loss for us."
Micky also admitted that he may be looking to bring some new faces into the Club on loan.
“That gives us an opportunity to get things going again. I think it is important to remember that we are building again,” he said.
“We have lost four very influential players (Ryan Woods, Connor Goldson, James Wesolowski and Nathaniel Knight-Percival). I have to keep reminding people of that because it has taken its toll.
“But the lads that have come in, Sullay Kaikai, Ian Black and Larnell Cole have been great around the place, and we’re all still learning about each other and trying to find that system that suits us again after thinking we had it pretty much sussed in preseason.
“it’s about bringing it back together, rebuilding as quickly as we can, getting to know each other again, hoping to get a bit of continuity and keep moving things forward.”
Three of Town’s next four games will be at Greenhous Meadow, and Micky believes that can help Town kick-start their season, as the squad continues to gel.
"They’re a good team, we’ve had them watched an awful lot so we know that we’re in for a tough test," said Micky.
“But we know that if we get the things right that we know we can do, and cut out individual errors, that we’re a match for anybody.”
Although Micky feels his side are a match for anybody on their day.
Colchester have won four from their last five and sit 10th in the table heading into the weekend clash.
"The results haven’t gone our way in the last three games, but we have a good opportunity on Saturday to turn that around," said Micky in his press conference at Nesscliffe Training Area.
"We’re learning all of the time, we’re a new group playing at a new level so we’re picking up things all the time and trying to get better every week.”
And the Town boss his side are still learning about the level the team are now playing in.
Micky spoke ahead of the game at Nesscliffe Training Area to help promote the armed forces matchday for the game against Colchester and deliver the matchball (which will be flown in by helicopter on the day).
Town host Tony Humes’ side at Greenhous Meadow in Sky Bet League 1 this weekend (3pm kick-off) as they look to end a run of three games without a win.
