Micky Mellon On Dagenham Clash

2 April 2015

Manager Reiterates It's One Half At A Time

  • Micky focused on each half as it comes
  • Town won 2-1 at Dagenham in November
  • Shrews sit three points behind leaders Burton
Manager Micky Mellon insists Shrewsbury Town will continue to to take it one half at a time ahead of Good Friday's game against Dagenham & Redbridge.

"Liam Lawrence has not trained all week, he is ill, so we will have a look (on Thursday) and pick a team which we believe give us a good chance a winning," said Micky.

Micky did confirm that he would have to shuffle the pack due to illness, with Liam Lawrence set to miss out on the game.

"It was very tough down to their place," said Micky.

"It took us a long while to break them down, and then we went down to ten men, but we battled away gamely and scored some terrific goals in the end and got a fantastic result.

"We thoroughly deserved it but that’s in the past now so, like I say, we look forward now and we know it will be a tough game at our place.

"They (Dagenham) are well capable and have a good manager (Wayne Burnett) who will have them fired up and well-organised to come up here and take us on.

"All the warning signs are there for us but we know if we concentrate on the jobs we have to do we will give ourselves a really good chance."

Dagenham are currently sit 15th in the League Two table, 11 points adrift of both the relegation and the play-offs, and will seek revenge after Town's 2-1 win in the reverse fixture in November.

"Last weekend’s win at Portsmouth was a massive game for us and a great result," said Micky.

"We move on very quickly and keep focused on what we have got to do next rather than what has come before, but certainly the lads can be pleased with their efforts last Saturday.

"Standards have been set and now we must carry them on.

"It’s important now that we keep the points tally ticking over and keep putting in performances and enjoying our football."

"This game is huge because the games are running down, but it’s one at a time, one half at a time, we never lose focus of that here and we will try to keep doing the things that got us into the position that we are in."

And the Shrews boss insists focus will be the key if Town are to stretch their winning run to four games.

Micky has seen his side storm to three back-to-back victories to climb back up into second, just three points behind the Brewers.

Town take on the Daggers in the Sky Bet League 2 clash at the Greenhous Meadow (3pm kick-off) looking to close the gap on leaders Burton Albion. "The games are coming up thick and fast so it’s important everybody is firing and ready to contribute."
