Micky Mellon Opens The YCA Launch On Monday

This started with Town manager Micky opening the launch on Monday by addressing the young people and their parents attending.

Workshop leaders will include inspirational individuals involved in sports coaching across Shrosphire, Telford and Wrekin.

In the first year of the programme, a series of workshops will be delivered from February through to July for the initial 46 young people selected. “I’m very excited about this new initiative which will provide high quality opportunities for aspiring young coaches.

“It’s fantastic to be able to launch this programme at Shrewsbury Town and I look forward to working with the many talented young coaches involved.”

Chris Jew, manager of the East Shropshire School Sport Partnership, said:

The academy is part of the national Sainsbury’s School Games programme and is the responsibility of the lead School Games area for Leadership, Coaching and Volunteering – East Shropshire.

The Young Coaches Academy (YCA) aims to provide training, guidance and support to young people aged 14-19 from the county’s schools and colleges to enable them to become better sports coaches and assistant coaches.

Manager Micky Mellon opened the launch of a new and exciting Young Coaches Academy for aspiring young sports coaches from across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin at Shrewsbury Town’s Greenhous Meadow stadium on Monday.
