Manager Expects Good Match v Former Club
The club are also still monitoring Zak Whitbread’s thigh injury sustained in the aforementioned Southend game.Micky also confirmed that both Abu Ogogo and Jermaine Grandison are fit for selection, while Larnell Cole is struggling with a recurring groin injury and will be absent on Sunday.
“It’s not as bad as we thought- we’re hoping he’ll be back in two or three weeks but Sunday is too soon for the moment," said Micky.
“It’s another blow for him and for us because he had been starting to get his fitness up.
“We saw his qualities on Tuesday night but we’ve got others who can fit in.”
During his pre-match press conference, Mellon provided an update on the injury to idfielder James Wallace, who suffered a knee problem during the 2-1 defeat at home to Southend on Tuesday night and will be out for two to three weeks.
"As I have said many times, you’ve got to approach every game with the same mentality- why you would approach one with any more motivation than another I don’t get,” he said.
“Every game is massive now- we have to just focus on one half at a time and try and do the best that we can.
“We have to get things right so no game is any bigger than others- they all have the prize of three points, which will give us a better chance of getting where we want to.
“Every game has the same significance- I’ve always approached it that way. We need to gather as many wins as possible, to start getting clean sheets and to start scoring first.
“We must keep trying to improve- if we cut out the silly errors then we’ll be absolutely fine.”
But despite the close proximity between the two sides in the division, Micky sees no reason as to why Sunday’s game is more imperative than any other.
Fleetwood currently sit one place below Shrewsbury in the League One table, just a point behind with two games in hand.
"I think the game down here we were well in control of but, with about 10 or 15 minutes to go, they threw the kitchen sink at us," said Micky.
“They pushed their full backs up, played the risk and reward game and it worked for them because they got the equaliser.
“There was a gale force wind as well so it was a game in very difficult conditions.
“In the JPT, we made an awful lot of changes- we went with a group that probably needed a game.
"We tried to pay respect to the competition but also tried to be realistic knowing that we had a long season ahead of us.
“I think, as long as it’s not windy, it will be more like the two teams you recognise going against each other on Sunday.”
And Micky is unsure as to whether the Cod Army have seen the best of what the Shrews have to offer.
The two sides have already met each other on two occasions during the current campaign - in the second round of the JPT Northern Area and on Boxing Day 2015.
"They have a new manager who I like a lot," said Micky.
"He (Steven Pressley) is a good guy and a good friend of mine.
“They’ll be very well drilled and will keep going to the end like we saw then they came here and scored late on.
“They will have many qualities that we’ll have to deal with so it is set for a good game.”
But Micky is not underestimating the opposition, who narrowly missed out on a place in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final on Wednesday night after losing a penalty shootout to Barnsley.
Shrewsbury will be looking to bounce back from two successive league defeats when they take on the Cod Army at Highbury Stadium in Sky Bet League 1 (3pm kick-off).
