“He keeps going and he drives people on and that’s why he was captain," said Micky.“Even when we were disappointing, he kept on battling away.
“He’s a wee guy who drives us on and drags us on all the time.
“He epitomises everything we want from a footballer on the pitch and all too often, he’s been the driving force of this team.
“So I made him captain as reward for his leadership abilities."
And Micky was pleased with Woods' contribution as he wore the armband for the first time in his career.
Midfielder Ryan Woods was named as captain for the game with usual skipper Liam Lawrence starting on the bench.
“Jordan Clark, Shaun Whalley and Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro came on and added to the few that were battling for us before and got us back into the game," said Micky.
“So they can be absolutely pleased with how they performed and gave us a different look."
And the Shrewsbury boss felt all three had a big impact on the pitch.
Micky used all three substitutes in the second half with Jordan Clark, Shaun Whalley and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro all coming on.
“It was a great equaliser - he just stayed on the shoulder of the defender and it completely changed the whole complexion of the game," said Micky.
“Games can change in an instant at this level - on a tackle, an incident and I believe it did.
“We had a few opportunities cleared off the line and we could have nicked it at the end."
Collins levelled the score with 20 minutes left after robbing defender Jonathan Burn before going past the goalkeeper and finishing into an empty net.
“We’ve got to be happy with a point but it just took us far too long to get going," said Micky.
“We had a chat afterwards and we’re miffed as to why we it took us so long to get tight and play with any freedom and get going."
And although Micky felt a point wasn't a bad result, he hoped his side would have got into their stride sooner.
However, striker James Collins was on-hand to equalise for his third goal of the season.
