Manager Confident Town Can Get Result At DW Stadium
Manager Micky Mellon is confident Shrewsbury Town have the qualities to earn a result against Wigan on Saturday.
Town play their first game in two weeks when they take on the Latics in Sky Bet League 1(3pm kick off) at the DW Stadium, with the hosts currently fifth in the table.
Wigan have won three of their last four games in all competitions, and Mellon said ahead of the clash: “They’re a team that has obviously invested very very heavily in their squad, invested very well, a very strong side as you’ve seen over the recent weeks apart from the Bury game.
“They’ve scored a lot of goals as I’ve seen them a couple of times and we know that they’re a strong side.
“Like we always say we know it’s going to be a tough game, but it’s one that we are looking forward to.
“We’re preparing very thoroughly for it, and we’ll go up there and make sure like we always do to get 100 percent out of my players - I can’t get any more than that out of them, and we know that we have enough in the group to cause Wigan problems.”
“So we look forward to the game.”
When asked if going to watch them personally helped Town’s preparations for the game, Micky added: “It would be if they didn’t have that strong a squad, they could play a different 11 in the very next game, different formation, that’s how strong their squad is and that’s how much they have ploughed into it, they have a very very strong group.”
“So we go up there concentrating on trying to make sure we get our jobs right, it’s a fantastic challenge, one that we are really looking forward to taking part in.
“We go up there well prepared and will give it the best shot we can.
“We make sure first and foremost that Wigan know that they’re in for a game, a tough game, and whatever they fling at us we believe we’ve got enough to have a very good blast back at them.”
One decision to be made ahead of the game is who wears the captain’s armband on Saturday, with James Collins in the frame to retain it after his performance against Gainsborough Trinity.
“We’ll have a look at that in the next few days,” said Micky.
“If it has the impact that it did at Gainsborough and you can get any positives because you put on the captain’s armband then we’ll do that.
“Certainly James got the lift out of that so we’ll probably leave it with him.”
