Defender Becomes First Signing This Summer

"I am a centre half so I enjoy defending and keeping clean sheets but I also feel I can play football as well and when needed I can pass the ball," said Lancashire.

"I enjoy defending and clean sheets is the main thing.

"I think I fit how the manager will want to play and that is another reason why I came here.

"Looking out on the pitch, it is a pitch you want to play football on and it is going to be a good season."

Lancashire featured 36 times for Rochdale last season, scoring twice, and was handed the captain's armband early in the 2015/16 campaign.

"I spoke to the gaffer and it is a place that I am really looking forward to coming to and getting started," said Lancashire.

"Rochdale offered me a new contract but I just felt that in the last few months I wanted something to excite me and a new challenge, and this is, I so I am looking forward to it.

"I am really excited about what the manager is trying to do here and I am sure there will be a few more faces coming in and hopefully we can start the season well and take it from there."

And the defender is now looking forward to getting started at Greenhous Meadow.

Lancashire, who plays primarily at centre back, has also had spells at Southampton, Grimsby Town, Walsall and Aldershot Town in his earlier career.

The 27-year-old, who has spent the last three seasons at Rochdale, was out of contract following the end of the 2015/16 campaign and becomes manager Micky Mellon's first signing of the summer on a two-year deal (with the option of a third year).

Shrewsbury Town is delighted to announce the signing of defender Oliver Lancashire.
