Town’s training facilities to get an upgrade to continue development.
The transfer deadline day is nearly at an end but one good piece of news revealed by manager Micky Mellon is that there will be investment in the training facilities the club use.At present Town use a number of facilities but the plan is to upgrade these existing facilities to allow the club to continue its development of young players.
In recent weeks young players Ryan Woods, Harry Lewis, Connor Goldson and Josh Ginnelly have all moved onto Premier League and Championship sides. This has brought extra money into the club that will help to fund the upgrades.
Manager Micky Mellon has been in talks with Town Chairman Roland Wycherley and the decision has been made to fund the improvements.
"I’ve had a conversation with the Chairman this morning and we are going to try and refurbish the training facilities," said Micky.
“The Chairman, Matt and I all want us to have facilities fit for a very, very good football club.
“We want to continue to develop the players that we already have but also attract good players to come here.
“It’s about us being ambitious and doing the right things to continue to allow the club to get better.”
Town’s record of developing young players in recent years has been good and the manager has had no hesitation in giving youth the chance in his team. The improvements in facilities will allow that work to continue and to help integrate the first and youth team in training;”I always said we wanted to improve the infrastructure and we have spoken a lot over the last few days about what to do.
“Rather than let this money fritter away we are determined that we are going to invest for long term future of the football club.
“We are an ambitious club and we want to continue our improvement and investment in the training facilities is a worthwhile project.
“The improvements are long overdue and we now will update them and bring them up to date so we will have a training base where we can continue to improve these players.
“The short term is to continue to improve and win games of football but in the long term we are going to improve the facilities to allow the youth team to be involved closer with us to continue to find these young players like Woods, Goldson, Lewis and Ginnelly.”
The club has spoken of its ambition to continue to develop and it’s all about putting the building blocks in place to help match that ambition.
The addition of better training facilities will allow more work to be done with the players and then it’s hoped the improvements will be seen on the pitch.
"From the Chairman and myself down we are ambitious to make sure we don’t waste this opportunity to improve the infrastructure of the football club," said Micky.
“We all want to improve and keep this club moving forward and these developments will allow that work to continue.
“The aim is to improve the overall club and to make it a place where young players want to come and to develop into good players.”
