Andy Tretton running to raise money for Children with Cancer UK

Former Shrewsbury Town captain and current Town commercial sales executive  Andrew Tretton is gearing up to tackle the 2015 Virgin Money London Marathon next weekend.

He will be pounding the streets of London on Sunday April 26 to help raise money for Children with Cancer UK.

“I’ll be running in memory of a family friend’s son who tragically passed away before his second birthday in 2013, so hopefully I can raise some money for their chosen charity, Children with Cancer UK” said Andrew.

“I was never lucky enough to meet Isaac, but I know from his family and friends that he was such a special little boy, and he bought so much pleasure into his family's lives in his tragically short time with them.”

“Gareth and Sonya, Isaac's parents, have been truly incredible in the way they have coped, as a father of three children myself I’m not quite sure how they’ve managed to be honest. They have inspired so many people, myself included, to get off their backsides and try to make a difference, themselves already raising thousands of pounds for various Cancer charities”

After taking on several half marathons over the last few years for a number of charitable causes, Tretton decided it was the right time to take on the challenge of the full 26.2 miles.

“I’d been toying with the idea for a couple of years, without ever taking the plunge, but decided just before last Christmas that I was going to go for it!

“The training has been tough to be honest, trying to fit it in around work and family life, but everyone has been incredibly supportive, especially those who have donated so generously”

“But I’m looking forward to the challenge. I accept that it’s probably going to hurt me, but it in no way compares to the pain that the Jones family went through and go through every day, and countless other families are experiencing as you read this”

“I’ve got a fundraising web page set up, and if you get a spare minute to look at it, that would be great! “
