FULL-TIME: Shrewsbury Town 1-4 Rochdale
Town looked to battle back but Hasler-Cregg headed in a fourth for Rochdale, who moved to the top of the North West league as a result of the victory.
And the visitors then restored their two-goal lead in the 56th minute as Reid cut inside and fired into the top corner from the left.
The deficit was halved, and Niall Flint thought he had scored the equaliser when he let fly with a looping drive from 25 yars out but Dale 'keeper Reece Lovett tipped the ball over with a one-handed save.
Dawes' side started the second half with a bang and got back into the game just four minutes after the restart as Ginnelly's outswinging corner from the right was volleyed in superbly by striker Jones.
HALF-TIME: Shrewsbury Town 0-2 Rochdale
Dale then doubled their lead four minutes later as a mistake from Town allowed James Hooper to loft the ball into an empty net from the edge of the penalty area, meaning the visitors were two goals in front at the break.
Ginnelly also tried his luck from long range but did not catch his strike cleanly, and Rochdale took the lead in the 37th minute when Harry Pratt's low cross from the left was turned into his own net by Burton.
The ball was then pulled back to Ethan Jones in the 25th minute but his shot was straight at the Dale 'keeper.
Anderson also found another opportunity with his head but he could only direct it back across goal.
There was a great chance for Shrewsbury to take the lead at the other end five minutes later, but striker Kaiman Anderson could only head over from Josh Ginnelly's cross as Town attacked down the left.
Town dominated the opening stages of the game although the first chance fell for Rochdale's Hasler-Cregg who fired a tame shot at Lewis in the seventh minute.
FIRST HALF
Harry Lewis replaced Shaun Rowley in goal, while Jeff Watkins and Alex Fletcher came in for Callum Grogan and Joel Carta.
Head of academy coaching Dawes made three changes to the side which drew 2-2 with Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.
