Battle of the Mascots

Posted on: Mon 29 Mar 2010

It's the Battle of the Mascots! From all corners of the country, odd looking creatures with oversized heads, are converging upon Shropshire's county town, for the entertainment of your good selves. From 2 pmbirds of all descriptions, comedy characters, lions tigers and some I cant even describe will be battling it out at the Prostar Stadium. It really is going to be an event reminiscent of "It's a knock out" in the 1970's.With over 30 mascots from different clubs and different sports, it's sure to be a very competitive match with plenty going on.

Professional football is all very well and good, but this is what the people really want, the bizarre spectacle of big clumsy furry things, kicking lumps out of the ball and possibly each other. Forget ronaldo, Rooney and Kaka, we have got Billy the Brewer, Lenny the lion and even Clarence the Dragon, all fooling around for your entertainment. At £2 for kids of all ages and £2 to park, this has to be one of the best value bits of entertainment you'll get these days. A perfect afternoons fun for kids of all ages.

Performer

It is difficult to pick one mascot as the one to watch as they all have their appeal. Personally I am looking forward to seeing Digger the Dog from Dagenham, from what I hear he is a bit of a midfield terrier, but they say his bark is worse than his bite. There are also a few interesting battles to see, we have 2 sets of owls, Ozzieand Barney from Sheffield Wednesday, and Chaddy from Oldham, whatever the outcome there, I am sure it will be a hoot. There is also the battle of the big cats as Lenny the Lion, Roarie from Telford Tigers and Rory the Lion from Macclesfield town all playing for pride.

Prediction

A difficult one to call as ever, I spoke to Lenny today and he is hoping for a high scoring draw something like 10-10. He wants a good clean match with plenty of laughs, and lots of silliness. But do remember to treat the mascots with respect, they are sensitive things deep down despite their size. It is also difficult to pick a loser because there isn't one, it's in aid of the Severn Hospice, at £2 per person it's a good value afternoon out, and it's FUN! So my prediction is , EVERYBODY WINS!
