Graham Turner
The Shrews legend returned to the club as manager in June, 26 years after leaving the club he guided into the second tier of English football back in the 1970s.
The 62 year old began his playing days as a centre back at Wrexham and Chester before arriving at Gay Meadow for £30,000 in 1973. The former England youth international would go on to spent 10 years with Shrewsbury and became player-manager in the 1978-79 season.
In his first season at the helm he won the Third Division championship to take Town into the second tier where they would spend the next decade. He also reached the FA Cup quarter-finals twice before ending his playing career in 1983.
After one further season at the club had had two seasons in charge of Aston Villa before being appointed manager of neighbours Wolverhampton Wanderers. He lifted them from the bottom tier to the Second Division thanks to back to back promotions, spearheaded by their strike partnership of Steve Bull and Andy Mutch. He also lifted the Sherpa Van Trophy at Wembley in 1987-88.
Turner spent eight years at Wolves before joining Hereford United in 1995, however The Bulls were in trouble financially and relegation to the Conference followed in 1997. With the club crippled by debts he stepped in and bought it to prevent it going out of business and became chairman as well as manager.
During his time in charge Hereford finished second in the Conference twice and both times failed in the play-offs before finally returning to the Football League in 2006. After securing their league status Turner stepped down as manager in April 2009, but returned last season after dismissing his successor John Trewick.
He steered the Bulls away from relegation before resigning and selling his shares at the end of the campaign having spent 14 years at Hereford, during which he only spent money on three players. He returned to Shrewsbury on a three year deal as manager with the option of an extra year as director of football, and his second spell began with a 3-1 against Bradford City at the Greenhous Meadow.
John Trewick - Senior Coach
Born in Bedlington, Northumberland John forged out a successful career playing for the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Newcastle United, Oxford United and Birmingham City.During that time he played in the UEFA Cup and won a League Cup medal with Oxford.After finishing his playing career with Gateshead John moved into coaching.He coached at West Brom for nearly 10 years before moving to Derby County and then Wolves.In 2004 he joined up with Graham Turner at Hereford United and the two have worked closely ever since.
Mike Jackson - Development Coach
Jacko started his footballing career as a trainee with Crewe Alexandra and progressed into the first team at Gresty Road.He then had successful spells with Bury, Preston North End, Tranmere Rovers and Blackpool before moving to join Shrewsbury Town.His career with Town was hampered by a knee problem and within in two years of joining he had to make the decision to give up playing.He had already begun to do the work and courses to move into coaching and began to help out with coaching duties with Town.When Graham Turner was appointed as managed one of his first announcements was that Jacko would be joining his coaching staff as a coach with the responsibility for the development of the young players.
Paul Gerrard - Goalkeeping Coach
Paul had a successful playing career with saw him play over 300 games for the likes of Oldham Athletic, Everton, Oxford united, Ipswich Town, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.His final contract with Sheffield United expired and since then Paul has moved into coaching.He was announced as the part-time goalkeeping coach for Oldham Athletic on 30th June and Graham Turner revealed a week later than Paul would be taking up the same part-time position with Shrewsbury Town.
Tony Ford - Fitness Coach
Tony has the responsibility for the player's fitness and weight training development at the club.His sessions are now legendary at the club with the focus on developing the player's explosive power.He had a career as a weigthlighter which saw him win a goal medal in the 1974 Commonwealth games in New Zealand as well as represent Great Britain in the Munich Olympic games of 1972.He has worked with Graham Turner during his time at a number of clubs and Graham brought Tony into Shrewsbury to help develop the player's fitness and physique.
