Town's recent good run continued today at the Prostar with an excellent win over high flying Dagenham & Redbridge.
Town were made to work all the way though when the visitors took the lead after 5 minutes through Paul Benson.Goals from Dave Hibbert and Steve Leslie saw Town got into the half-time break in the driving seat.
A red card for Scott Doe midway through the second half took the pressure off Town but the visitors made it really hard work for the home side.In the end Town showed great patience and team work to come away with three valuable points.
After the game Town manager Paul Simpson spoke to the ShrewsPlayer for this thoughts on the game: "There was a great determination in the performance and we had to be gritty at times and turn them round.
"Although we came under a bit of pressure at the end I thought we did have opportunities to make it a convincing victory for ourselves.
"We got all the 3 points, it was a fantastic win which keeps us moving along nicely and sees us build on those 3 away performances."
It was the visitors who took the early advantage through a Paul Benson goal but Town showed great character to come back. They also had to recover from the loss of Dean Holden and Craig Disley and the manager was pleased with the way his squad responded: "I think there is a spirit in there and that wasn't just shown after we went behind but with the substitutions that we had to make.
"We lost Dean Holden and had to put Danny Taylor in again who was excellent, we lost Craig Disley with a real aggressive challenge that knocked him out.
"Steve Leslie came into a different role than he has played in the recent games and he did really well and grabbed the winning goal.
"I thought everyone put in a real solid performance, we all know there were things we could complain about and do better with.
"It is a big 3 points and when you are competing with the teams at the top with you you have got to beat then, today we have done that and come the end of the season it could be a big 3 points."
The win keeps Town's recent good form going and sees the clubs points total an impressive one: "That makes it 10 out of a possible 12 points now which isn't a bad return, maybe it should have been 12 out 12 if we want to be picky.
"It was a big performance and a big 3 points which will hopefully set us up for a week where we can get Dean Holden and Craig Disley back."
Once again though Town picked up a couple of new knocks with Dean Holden and Craig Disley having to leave the action. It means that Simmo will be looking to bolster his squad as at present the numbers are down: "We think it might be a Sciatica problem with Dean, he felt a tightening in his hamstring and if he had a knot in there. We didn't want to take a chance and run the risk of it tearing and him being out for a long time. As a precautionary measure and with Danny Taylor doing so well last week I was confident he could go in there.
"Craig took a real smack in the eye and has a real shiner, he had concussion and that is why he had to come off as he was in pain and dazed. That is calming down and come the start of the week we will have the medical people check him over and he can join in training.
"That is a problem and that does leave us a little low on numbers with Omer choosing to leave the club.
"We need to add to the squad and get a few more bodies in and hopefully we will be able to do that over the next couple of weeks."
Towards the end of the game Town had to show great patience and defend well against a Dagenham side who were throwing everything at them.Simmo also had a word for the Prostar crowd who had stuck behind the side for the full 90 minutes: "It would have been very easy to go under and it would have been easy for the fans to turn on us when we went a goal down.Today as a team I though we kept our shape, kept the discipline and kept trying to play the right way.
"I also thought the fans were excellent today, the way they stayed behind us and made a hell of a lot of noise and that was fantastic.
"If we can keep winning games we know they will stay with us, we know more will come out of the woodwork and support us and that has to be good for the future of the club."
