Town dropped to a 3-0 defeat away to Grimsby Town at Blundell Park.

It wasn't an overly poor performance from Town but another dubious penalty decision and poor defending gave Grimsby a three goal advantage.

Town though had already had chances to take the lead in the first half as well as chances in the second half to get back on level terms.

After the game Town manager Paul Simpson spoke to the press and was asked for his thoughts on the game: "Everything about the game was disappointing but if I'm honest it wasn't the worst performance we put in.

"The goals are very disappointing, the first on the stroke of half-time has given them a huge lift.Kelvin is saying he caught the player but won the ball first and it wasn't a penalty.

"In second half we didn't defend crosses well enough, we didn't threaten their goal enough.

"In the first half we had chances but we didn't take them, we had a good chance with Kev McIntyre at the start of the second half.

"On the whole it is a very disappointing day but what we have got to do is remember what had got us into the position we are in and remember what made us into a decent time and there's not better way to bounce back than getting a result against Rochdale next week."

Town were left to rue a number of chances in the first half and an excellent one after the restart from Kev McIntyre that Colgan did superbly to stop.Jamie Cureton and Dave Hibbert both had chances to grab goals but it wasn't to be their day: "You expect players like Jamie and Hibbo to put chances away and if they had gone in then who knows what might have happened.

"When Jamie went through on goal you are confident that he is going to get a goal but he snatched at it a little bit.

"Hibbo snatched at things a little bit but that's what happens when you are bursting to get that goal.

"I thought they linked together well and showed good movement but we've just got to keep working with them and keep believing.

"I thought there was a lot of positives today, Paul Murray slotted in well, the midfield two worked their socks but as a team it was probably the worst we've passed the ball."

There were a number of key moments in the game with the first half penalty decision and Kev McIntyre's chance after the restarted suggested as two of the big ones: "I think there were a lot of key moments and some really good opportunities early in the game that we should have done better with.

"The penalty was a big decision and then Kev McIntyre's chance was another.

"The penalty decisions still haven't evened themselves out yet and I very much doubt that we would have got that penalty if it was the other way round.

"We are another game down and we have to lift ourselves for the game next weekend."
