Shrewsbury Town gave manager Graham Turner the perfect result to mark his return to the clubs managerial hot seat with a 3-1 win over promotion favourites Bradford City.

It was the visitors though who took the early advantage with a goal in the first 20 minutes after a mix up in the Town defence.

Jake Robinson them popped up to level things and after that the young striker had a taste for goals and grabbed another brace to give Town a deserved win.

After the game Graham Turner was in good spirits and asked whether he could have asked for a better return to the club: "We could have scored more and conceded less but there were moments in there which were really encouraging.

"Having gone a goal down we were under a little bit of pressure and looked nervous in the first 20 minutes but as soon as we started to pass it in the way we know we can and release our wide players we looked a decent side and thoroughly deserved the win."

Going behind early on could be a problem for some teams but for Turner's charges it gave them a challenge which they rose to:"It was important to get back on level terms and that gave the players that little bit of boost.

"In our eyes it was a bad goal to concede but we needed that one as it changes the mood in the dressing room at half-time.

"We knew we could be better than what we showed in that first half an hour and that's what we proved.

"We've got so much pace and mobility in the side that we can be a threat against anyone."

The game saw a return to form for Jake Robinson who had put in some good performances over the pre-season games. The manager had been weighing up his attacking options and the Robinson/Harrold combination looked good on its first outing: "His finishing was excellent and I think he's a lad who has good abilities.

"He has good skills, mobility and pace and he could be a big asset to this season, especially playing off a front man like Matt Harrold.

"I felt his goal scoring was excellent and that is encouraging for the future.

"I think he's a lad who plays off confidence and I understand that he got some stick here a couple of times for making mistakes which hit his confidence

"That performance will do him the power of good and if he carries on playing like he has today then the crowd will love him."

The game is a good start for Town but the manager isn't getting carried away with things. He did reveal that it has taken some pressure off and the side can now look forward to Charlton in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night:"It's a start for us, nothing more, which will put us in good stead for the coming months.

"It's a boost to confidence and 3 points on the board, what we can do now is relax and look forward to Tuesday night.

"We can relax a bit as we have league points on the board and Charlton will come here as favourites and we can enjoy ourselves."
