Town came through a tough test by Aldershot Town at the Greenhous Meadow this afternoon. It was a strong game between two good sides and in the end the draw was probably a fair result.
It was Town who took the lead with a great diving header from Ian Sharps but they couldn't hang onto the lead and Aldershot were on level terms within a couple of minutes.
After the game manager Graham Turner spoke to the press and was asked for his thoughts on the game: "It was a fair result, though the disappointment for me was that we conceded so soon after we had scored.
"It is something that we have talked about guarding against, we had an opportunity to get the ball into the opposing half twice but we allowed Aldershot to come back at us.They got the corner, then we didn't do our jobs in there and that goal gave them a lift.
"In the first half they had a lot of the ball, there were two different formations and they were getting on top with the extra man in midfield and were causing us a few problems.
"We changed it around at half-time and for 20 minutes we did ok and got ourselves into some good positions.
"I've said to the players before that you build a points total like a cricketer builds an innings and sometimes you have to take the single, and if you can't win the game you have to make sure you don't lose it.That's not a negative; it just gives the players that belief and keeps the unbeaten run going.
"We would have obviously liked to have won and liked to have pushed on but it died a death for us a little when Matt Harrold was sent off.
"Other than that it's another point, another game unbeaten when we didn't really pass the ball as good as we can do or cross the ball as well as we can do."
The game ended in controversy with a second yellow card for Matt Harrold and both decisions spilt opinion in the Greenhous Meadow crowd.Graham Turner wasn't sure the first decision was the correct one: "I thought it was a rather harsh decision, the first one was right in front of me and I don't think it was anywhere near a yellow card.He didn't catch Darren Jones, Darren realised that and bounced up straight away.
"As I understand it he only gets the one game ban and will miss the trip to Stoke City which is a blow as it will be a little like going into the land of the giants there but I'd rather him miss a Carling Cup game than a league game."
One of the plus points of the game was Ian Sharps first league goal in a Town shirt with a lovely diving header. In the end though this will be overshadowed by the fact that Town only took the one point from the game: "It was well taken with a stooping header from a good delivery but it gets overridden when you think that within 5 minutes we had lost the lead.
"They always talk about being venerable in that period immediately after you have scored and that is the disappointment for me."
