Town's good start to the season continued at the Greenhous Meadow but they were given their toughest test of the season so far.

The game started with Town in 2nd place in the npower League 2 and with visitors Rotherham United in 3rd place and it showed with the standard of play out on the pitch.

The first half was Town's but in the second half the visitors pushed the home side all the way, but in the end Lionel Ainsworth's strike on 4 minutes was enough to move Town to the top of the division.

After the game Town manager Graham Turner was asked for his thoughts on the game: "It was a great game and a great result overall.

"I thought we played well in the first half and having scored early on I would have thought we would have gone on and done better with our possession.

"We showed a lot of pace and tempo to our game without really creating those final goal scoring opportunities.

"In the second half I have to be fair to Rotherham and they got on top of the game and what we had to do was a rear guard action.

"For the first time this season we have been under a lot of pressure and I thought we dealt with it well, though saying that I would have we preferred if we had defended further up the pitch.

"We had to defend our 18 yard line, we had to defend from their throw ins, corners and free-kicks and it was a good read guard action with the players putting their bodies in where it hurts."

On Friday ex Town keeper Joe Hart put in a great performance for England and today it was current Town custodian Chris Neal's turn to get the plaudits.Neal pulled off a string of good stops to help keep Rotherham at bay and give Town another clean sheet: "Chris had plenty to do in the second half, sometimes your keeper will have little to do but then they show what they can do when they are called on to make a crucial save.

"In the second half he more to do than I would have liked but he dealt with that and it will do his confidence the world of good.

"There were also some defenders who put their heads in to block shots and did the work to stop Rotherham.

"For me though they shouldn't have got that high up the pitch to get at us like they did.

"We are going to have times when that does happen and times when our game and performance isn't flowing, then you have to be able to defend and we have done that reasonably well today."

The difference between the sides was the goal from Lionel Ainsworth on 4 minutes after some good play from Craig Disley. It was a good way for Town to start the game but the Town manager had expected his side to build on that: "It was good move with some nice play, Craig Disley made a great run, then kept his head and picked the ball out for Lionel.

"After that though we should have done better with the amount of ball that we did have.

"We are a better passing side than we showed today, maybe having won 4-0 at Stockport last week we felt it would flow like that again. It didn't but that doesn't matter as we have won it and it's another 3 points."
