Gary Peters shuffles his pack for this 12 noon kick-off against Wrexham, in come Darren Moss, Neil Wainwright and Michael Symes and out go Darran Kempson with Neil Ashton and Ben Herd dropping to the bench.
It was a full bloodied start from both sides with tackles flying in as they looked to take the early advantage; both sides though had great early chances to take the lead. First chance dropped to Wrexham after a cross from the right found Matty Collins bursting into the Town box unmarked but luckily he screwed his shot well wide, then Town had a great chance after a cross from Wainwright found Hibbert free on the edge of the 6-yard box but he got his header all wrong and put the ball well wide.
Wrexham had a couple of decent efforts in quick succession with Eifion Williams chipping in a decent shot that had Garner back peddling to tip the ball over, the resulting corner then came across and found Neil Roberts rising well at the back post but he put his header wide of the far post.
With just over 15-minutes of the game gone Wrexham were just about having the better of the possession in the final third. The home side were getting ball forward quickly and were getting it into some good areas around the Town box but there were no clear shots other than a few speculative efforts.
The ball came to Ryan Valentine on the left but he didn't have control and Darren Moss slid in to challenge for the ball, the two players clashed with Moss quickly up to his feet gesturing to the ref that Valentine had gone in with a stamp, the two players then went forehead to forehead with ref Swarbrick showing Moss the yellow card.
Town were playing some of the better football but moves were breaking down at the vital moment and Marc Pugh was quality of a couple of mistakes, the first when he was put free down the left he had the option of an early ball into Hibbert and Symes but elected to go for the by-line and got muscled out, then good combination of Symes and Pugh was Symes get in behind the Wrexham defence and then attempt the one-two with Pugh but the return was over hit and went out for a Wrexham goal kick.
Wrexham created a good opening on the half-hour mark following a good move that saw the ball brought cross field and then pushed to the left to find Llewellyn, he pushed past Wainwright and then whipped in a low cross that Neil Roberts came across to meet but he put his shot over the Town bar.
Wrexham had another decent effort minutes later when good work from Carvill saw him burst down the right and get pasted Tierney, Pugh had got back to help and as Carvill burst into the box Tierney slid in to tackle, but the ball went across the face of the Town box and found Eifion Williams but he got his shot all wrong and the ball went harmlessly behind.
Town created the best move of the game after a good period of possession that saw the visitors keep the ball well and pass it around the pitch, there was some good once touch moves down the right that ended with Hibbert playing the ball to Drummond on the edge of the box, he burst into the box and then cut the ball back to find Hibbert totally free on the penalty spot but he got under his shot and it dropped harmlessly into Williams hands,
Half-time: 0-0
The half started with a Town substitution with Gary Peters bringing on Ben Herd to replace Darren Moss, who had been booked in the first half, for a like for like swap.
Town looked a lot brighter after the restart and had more fight for the game as they went at the home side. Dave Hibbert did well to chase down a nothing ball and then force the home side to give away possession in a dangerous area. Dave Hunt hadn't been taking any long throws in the first half but this time he threw a huge ball into the danger area, this caught Steve Evans unawares and his attempted clearance flicked off his head and was dropping into the Wrexham net until Williams got back to claw the ball away for a Town corner.
With just over quarter of an hour of the second half gone Town grabbed the lead. They had been on top since the start of the half and when Wainwright got the ball on the right he was forced inside, he kept his run going and went towards the Wrexham box, his pass was blocked but the deflection fell in behind the home defence and there was Symes, there was no offside and Symes kept his composure to slot the ball between Williams legs to make it 1-0 to Town.
Gary Peters made his second switch of the game bringing on Neil Ashton to replace Dave Hibbert, the Town forward had been suffering with a bad back/hamstring all week and Marc Pugh pushed up front to join Symes in the Town attack.
Wrexham were starting to see a bit more of the ball and had a good chance after Matty Done had down well to get between Herd and Wainwright to burst to the by-line, he pulled the ball back to the near post to find Marc Williams who stabbed a shot in which Garner did well to block at the foot of the post, the ball was partially cleared but only as far as Robbie Garrett who drove in a low drive from 25-yards out that Garner blocked at full stretch and then collected at the second attempt.
Town were looking more solid than they had in previous weeks and were trying to do the simple things. They were looking to hold onto the ball and use the short pass to keep possession, when they did have the ball they were trying to slow things down and frustrate Wrexham and the home crowd.
With minutes of the game remaining Gary Peters made his final change by bringing on Danny Hall to replace Marc Pugh to try and tighten things up even more.
Town had a nice little break after some good work from Drummond saw him win the ball and push it to Hall, he then played it down the right to find Symes who held the ball up well, he broke towards the edge of the Wrexham box and then attempted to flick the ball to Hall who had found himself free at the back post but the ball was cut out before it find it's intended target.
Full-time: 1-0
