Paul Simpson is forced to make the one change from the side he has fielded for the Bradford City and Chesterfield games as Dean Holden is suspended. This means that second year youth team player Danny Taylor is handed his debut in the right back slot.
The home side were looking to take the early advantage and took the game to the visitors but Town were holding their shape well.Town were also looking bright when they got the chance to go forward.
Graham Coughlan was looking strong as he begun to battle with Kabba and Taylor but the Town skipper seemed to pull up with a problem in his hamstring. He was ok to continue but with only 10 minutes on the clock he pulled up and it was clear he was unable to continue. It meant a reshuffle for Town with Paul Murray coming on to replace Coughlan, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff slotted in at centre-back, Kevin McIntyre dropped to left-back and Murray went into the midfield.
There were chances at both ends of the field for Town and for the Brewers.Town worked a great opening following some good passing football saw the ball out on the right with Leslie, he cut back and crossed towards the back post and Lewis Neal, he headed the ball down to set-up Hibbert but his first time shot was deflected over the bar.Burton's best chance came just before the half hour mark, they broke down the right hand side, the ball was played into Greg Pearson who had found space in the box, he turned his marker well before hitting in a low shot but Button was equal to it and got down to pull off a great finger tip save.
It was Town though who took the early advantage and grabbed the lead with Dave Hibbert getting his 13th goal to give him his best tally in a Town shirt so far.Good hard work and effort from Town saw the visitors win a corner. The ball was swung over to the back post to find Langmead, he headed the ball back across the face of goal and it finally came to Dave Hibbert, he then looped the ball back towards the back post and it went over the marker on the post and into the back of the net to make it 1-0 to Town.
Dave Hibbert was looking to add to his tally and was causing the home defence a lot of problems.Steve Leslie was having another good showing in his role playing off Hibbert and the two of them were making it an uncomfortable afternoon.Hibbert had another good sight on goal after turning his marker and driving in a low shot but Krysiak was down quickly to smoother the ball.
Burton captain Guy Branston was putting himself around and was lucky to get away with a few of his challenges. He had been booked early on in the game and once again went in a little too strong for the challenge and this time he caught Steve Leslie high in the face.Ref Swarbrick had no hesitation to produce another yellow card which meant an early end to Branston' afternoon.
Burton a good chance to level things just before the break after some good play for Kabba and Pearson, the ball was with Disley but Kabba showed good desire to nick the ball and put Kabba in on goal, he hit in a good shot but again Button was equal to it with another great save springing across his goal.
Half-time: 0-1
Burton were start out of the blocks after the restart and had a couple of good sights of goal with Kabba flicking a header just wide.Town though had chances of their own with Disley hitting a shot just wide of the target and Dave Hibbert's pace setting up a half chance for Steve Leslie.
Town were showing good patience as they soaked up the pressure from the home side.Burton were getting at Town whenever they got the chance but there was little to really trouble David Button. The visitors were using their one man advantage well to create the space to move the ball quickly and get some good possession in the Burton half.
Burton were continuing to chip at Town but they were restricting them to long range efforts which weren't causing too many problems.Russell Penn looked up some 35 yards from goal, he drove in a great low shot that beat Button but the post was there to save Town.John McGrath also had a good sight of goal and drove in a long range curling effort but Button was equal to this and tipped the ball round the post.
With 15 minutes remaining on the clock Burton's pressure paid off with an equaliser. They moved the ball quickly to take the game to Town, the ball was played into Kabba on the edge of the box, he held off the challenges from the Town defence and laid it off into the run of Greg Pearson, he drove in a low shot that flew past Button to make it 1-1.
Town hadn't had much action around the Burton box but with 5 minutes remaining they had a couple of good efforts on the home sides goal. The first after a quick break saw the ball with Dunfield, he floated a great ball to find Lewis Neal, he took a touch and then drove a good looking shot which went just wide of the target. Then moments later Dave Hibbert nicked in to take the ball away from Tony James to break over the half way line, he fed it to Kris Bright who held it up before slotting a ball to put Lewis Neal away down the right, he pushed into the box and drove in a low shot that beat Krysiak but went wide of the far post, Kris Bright was driving in at theback post and a ball into him may well have paid better dividends.
Full-time: 1-1
