Town make a number of changes to the side that went down by the narrow 1-0 margin at home to Rochdale last weekend. In to the starting line-up comes Dean Holden, Kris Bright, Paul Murray and Steve Leslie, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff is suspended while Jake Robinson, Jamie Cureton and Lewis Neal move to the bench.
The Shots ground staff had been hard at work since the midday in the driving rain to get the pitch prepared. They had done the hard work to remove a lot of rain and make the pitch playable.
The rain continued to swirl around the Recreation ground and there were some areas where there were some puddles but both sides were trying to play football when they got the chance. It was probably the home side who were having the better of the opening first 15 minutes with Town not really being able to get out of their own half.
It was still the home side who were probably shading the attacking play with Town not really clicking when they got the ball over the half way line.Town did have a few decent positions around the box from free-kicks and attacks but nothing to really trouble the Shots keeper.
Just before the half-hour mark it was Aldershot who took the lead with a real scrappy gaol. The ball was in and around the Town box but the visitors couldn't get it clear, Morgan broke though but the ball came back and was clipped back in, Button came to clear through abunch of players but couldn't connected and the ball finally fell to Bozanic who drove the ball home through a crowded box to make it 1-0 to Aldershot.
It was nearly 2-0 to Aldershot with 10 minutes of the half remaining after a Town free-kick came to nothing.Dunfield attempted to take it short to McIntyre but it put the Town player under pressure, he played it back to Skarz who was just inside the Town half, he turned back to run the ball back to Button but it got caught in a puddle and Jackson pounced, he had a clear run in on goal with only Button to beat but the Town keeper stood up well and managed to get something in the way of the ball to divert it away from goal.
Half-time: 0-1
There was a respite from the rain at the beginning of the second half and this allowed a little bit more football to be played. It was Aldershot though who were making the better start and they had a good sight of goal when Jackson burst through on goal, he drove in a low shot but Langmead threw himself in to make an important block.
Town were starting to get the ball down and pass it around more and this was seeingthe visitors exert some pressure on the home side.Van Den Broek had shown in spells the problems he could cause the home side when the ball was played into his feet, and from one such ball Town created a really good opening for Skarz at the back post but the final ball was just over hit.
It wasn't the best of games to watch but to their credit both teams kept pushing but it was Aldershot who seemed to be the stronger the longer the game went on.Town were trying to attack but it broke down and Aldershot broke down the left, the kept going with men in support but the ball came into Marvin Morgan with his back to goal and Coughlan in attendance, he held the ball up and then turned Coughlan before driving a shot high into the roof of the net to make it 2-0 to the Shots.
Town still hadn't really tested Jaimez-Ruiz in the Shots net but with less than 5 minutes remaining on the clock substitute Jamie Cureton had a go, he did well to offer an option and run into the space down the right, he cut past the defender and drove in a low shot cum shot towards Lewis Neal who was coming in at the back post but a Shots player slide in to hook the ball away.
Full-time: 0-2
