Shrewsbury Town make the two changes for today's trip to Plainmoor with Jake Simpson and Lewis Neal come in to the starting line-up with Paul Murray and Jake Robinson dropping to the bench.
There was a heart in mouth moment for Town straight from the kick off when Torquay's Benyon broke through the Town lines, Shane Cansdell-Sherriff put in a foot to try and stop the ball but caught Benyon, some through Cansdell-Sherriff was the last man but ref East didn't see it as that and only produced the yellow.
Town were looking bright going forward and Hibbert had an early shot which tested Scott Bevan in the Gulls net. The visitors pressing saw a couple of free-kicks in good areas and Jamie Cureton went close with a header from a Jake Simpson cross from the right.
The home side were proving to be a handful for Town as they took the game to the visitors. There were willing runners in the Torquay side and they were causing Town a number of problems when they attacked. Town to their credit kept to the defensive job and were putting the hard work in to keep the home side at bay.
Town were pressing well and looking to take the advantage and were linking up well, Cureton did well to hold up and then lay off the ball to Dean Holden who drove in a great shot from 30 yards out that Bevan did well to turn round the post. Town continued to press with a string of corners and throws with Guy Branson going near to an own goal when he flicked a header at the near post that nearly dropped in at the back post. From the resulting corner Jake Simpson swung over a ball that was flicked over on, it eventually came to Dean Holden at the back post who drove in a low shot that went through a clutch of before going into the net with a probably deflection off Bevan or Branston, but who cares.
Town were continuing to push and after a move broke down Town worked hard to get the ball back, the ball was chipped back into the danger area and found Hibbert, he took the ball on his chest before turning sharply and hitting in a superb volley but Bevan was equal to it and pulled off an excellent save to deny Hibbert.
The final 15 minutes of the game was a finely balanced affair with both sides looking to get on top when they could. Both were getting the ball forward quickly and trying to get in behind but both defences were working hard to keep each other out.
Half-time: 1-0
Town got off to the worst start possible with Torquay levelling with just over a minute on the clock, the ball was lifted into the back post and there was Mark Ellis rising unmarked to put in downward header that squeezed between Button and Cansdell-Sherriff to make it 1-1.
Torquay made a bid shout for a penalty when Holden slide in to make a great tackle, Town then broke quickly with Lewis Neal down the left hand side, he took the ball forward before driving the ball cross field to find Jake Simpson, he controlled the ball well then looked to take the ball and get at the Torquay goal, he looked for the angle but had to go wide to Lewis Neal who cut in before drilling alow shot across.
Things got worse for Town when Torquay's second half momentum saw them grab a second goal with 15 minutes on the clock. The home side were causing problems with Zebroski down the right hand side, he put a ball into the back post that Ellis nodded back across, the ball seemed to stick in the Town box with the visitors unable to get it clear and there was Scott Rendell to bundle the ball home to make it 2-1 to Torquay.
Jake Robinson was brought on to replace Jamie Cureton with 25 minutes left on the clock and had a half chance to get Town level. Lewis Neal had been working well down the left hand side and again put in a good delivery towards Robinson who was coming into the box, he just failed to connect under pressure from the Torquay defence and the home side managed to clear the danger.
It seemed like it was going to be Torquay's half with the home side looking the more likely to score but Town were continuing to push and work to get back onto level terms.Hibbert has working his socks off to give options up front and there were willing runners from the Town ranks but it looked like it might not be Town's day.
Full-time: 2-1
