Graham Turner makes two changes from the side that unluckily came away from Stoke City with out a result in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night. The strike pairing of Jake Robinson and Matt Harrold return with Kevin McIntyre and Benjamin Van Den Broek dropping down to the bench.

The opening 10 minutes were a pretty even affair with both sides proding and probing looking to take the early advantage. The Edgeley Park surface was in excellent condition and this allowed the sides to pass the ball around nice and crisply. Town had the best effort of the opening exchanges after Steve Leslie found space inside the Stockport box, he jinxed and then drilled in a cross cum shot that fizzed past the far post. For Stockport their best effort was a free-kick from 25 yards out that Greg Tansey fired just over the Town bar.

The first booking of the game went to the home side with striker George Donnelly being shown the yellow card after a clash with Chris Neal. The town keeper had come out of his area and cleared the danger, Donnelly caught Neal and ref Quinn decided it warranted a caution. Neal was OK to continue after treatment from Town physio Nathan Ring but needed a dressing around his head to continue.

Town came closest to taking the lead just before the half-hour mark after ball into the forward line saw Matt Harrold nod it down, it then came to Steve Leslie as he burst into his box, he hit a vicious shot that was goal bound until a Stockport body got a nick in to deflect it behind for a corner. From the resulting corner Town again went close to scoring with Ian Sharps connecting to the ball well with a header that needed a Stockport man on the line to clear the ball.

Town had done pretty much everything but score in the half and were easily having the best of the play and possession. They were using the ball well with Wright and Leslie switching the ball between them to pull Stockport over the park and create the space for Robinson and Harrold to attack.

The visitors pressure paid off with just over 5 minutes of the half remaining with Jake Robinson getting on the score sheet once again. More Town pressure saw the ball played into the Stockport box, it was cleared but only as far as Disley who played it back in to find the run of Robinson who had sped into the Stockport box to get in behind the defence, he had only Williams to beat and kept his cool and then drilled his shot across the keeper and into the far post to make it 1-0.

half-time: 1-0

Town continued to look confident and assured after the restart and were looking to build on their lead. All the football was being played in the County half with the visitors knocking the ball around nicely and continuing to pull the home side over the pitch to create gaps that they could exploit.

Town were handed a second goal after the normally reliable Danny Swailes made a slip up, he failed to control a ball back to him and his slip allowed Matt Harrold to pounce and run in one on one on goal with only Williams to beat, Harrold kept his cool and drilled a low drive past Williams that gave him no chance and nestled in the net at the far post to make it 2-0 to Town.

Stockport were pushing and looking for a way back into the game but Town showed their dangerous counter attacking edge, Sadler got in an important tackle and Town turned defence into attack, the ball came to Harrold who laid it off to Jake Robinson who then drove a great ball across the face of the County goal to find Mark Wright running in at the back post and he kept his cool to stroke the ball home and give Town a 3-0 advantage.

After the goals the game had lulled a little with Stockport trying to get back into the game but Town doing the work to stop them getting a sniff. The difference between the two sides seemed to be that every ball, every pass, every move that Town did seemed to be for a purpose but County looked to be rushed.

Town though were still dangerous and this was highlighted when a good bit of pressure around the half-way line saw Matt Harrold work hard to nick the ball back, he went to ground but Mark Wright nicked in to come away with the ball and burst down the left and on towards the County goal, he kept going with the County defence trying to get back but they couldn't and when Wright got to the box he calmly stroked the ball past Williams to make it 4-0 to Town.

Full-time: 4-0
