Town manager Graham Turner makes two changes to the side that beat Stockport County 4-0, in come Kevin McIntyre and Lewis Neal with Craig Disley dropping to the bench, Mark Wright has a slight strain and isn't risked in the game.

Town had a great chance of grabbing an early lead after a superb ball from Leslie saw Robinson nick in to win a corner. From the corner the ball was whipped in nicely and there was McAllister with a solid header that beat Brill in the Oldham net but the bar was there to save the home side.

Oldham were looking sharp on the ball and were looking to get at the visitors when they could, a neat period of pressure saw Bembo-Leta cross an inviting hanging ball that Deane Smalley did well to connect with a downward head that Chris Neal smartly tipped round his post.

It was a pretty even game with both sides getting the ball down and passing it around nicely t try and create the openings. The home side thought were probably on top of the chances with just under 20 minutes on the clock. Chris Neal ad to be at his best after Dale Stephens curled a low free-kick around the wall towards Neal's near post but the Town keeper was across his box quickly to push the ball behind for a corner.

Chris Neal was the busier of the keepers and he was dealing with everything that was coming into his box well. Town were looking to hit the home side with a quick break when they could and the width of Leslie and Neal was paying some dividends and finding some space in the Latics defence.

Half-time: 0-0

There was a change for Town after the break with Craig Disley coming on to replace Sean McAllister, there was also a good opening for Town moments after the restart after a nice one-two between Harrold and Robinson saw Harrold get in behind the Latics defence, he pulled the ball back but M'Voto read the situation well and came across to clear.

Things were pretty even still with 15 minutes of the half gone, Town were still pushing and probing without really hurting the Lactics goal. The home side were beginning to look a bit crisper with their passing to create openings but these were restricted to long range efforts that Chris Neal did well to deal with.

Town had tested the Oldham woodwork in the first half and midway through the second half the woodwork was there again to save the home side. Ref Sutton had called play back for a foul on Robinson, the ball was curled over by and flicked on by Disley, Cansdell-Sherriff got a header that looked to be looping over Brill but the Latics keeper managed to tip the ball onto the post.

Town continued to push looking for the first goal of the game and they were having some good sights of goal. Benjamin Van Den Broek had come on for Jake Robinson and he did well to win Town a throw-in. This was taken quickly to find Raven who looped a high ball into the Oldham box, it dropped in behind Brill and Bright showed good strength to hold off his marker and flash a header just wide of the target.

Town's persistence paid off with just under 10 minutes of the half remaining, a good move had seen Town pressuring around the Oldham box, the ball came to Steve Leslie just outside the box with his back to goal, he had a marker behind him but did well to hold him off before turning and then drilling in a low shot that flew low past the dive of Brill from about 20 yards out to make it 1-0 to Town.

With the game entering 3 minutes of added time Town were doing their best to hold onto possession and make the home side work to get the ball back. The visitors were trying to calm things but Oldham were pushing for all their worth to get back on level terms. With seconds on the clock the Latics had a great chance to take the game into extra time when Dale Stephens curled a free-kick millimetres wide of the top corner.

Full-time: 1-0
