Council Lift Parking Restrictions
Shropshire County Council have lifted the match day parking restrictions they put into place around Oteley Road.
The Council introduced the road closures and cones without the consultation of the club or transport liaison and have now removed those restrictions.
John Everall, Shropshire County Council's Cabinet member for environment, said: "The temporary restrictions have been viewed by many residents and local councillors as successful. However, as these parking issues are not related to road safety or capacity, our resources should not continue to be used.
"As part of the planning process the club requires a current travel plan which states their responsibility to control visitors parking in surrounding areas. We will continue to work with the club to encourage them to fulfil their responsibilities."
Town Vice-Chairman Keith Sayfritz took time to explain the current situation to ShrewsWeb and to the Town fans: "We want to reassure both our fans and the community that as far as the football club is concerned it has met all its obligations under the 106 agreement.
"We have provided the most comprehensive, sustainable transports plan in the county with the introduction of the walk and ride services, park and ride services and town and country bus services.
"The county council introduced parking restrictions covering some 40 streets without consultation with the club or liaison group and have now decided to end those restrictions.
"We think that the question of parking where people park in a responsible and safe manner is a question of public policy, of course many people do not want people to park outside their houses out of choice but why should the football club be treated any differently to any other organisation.
"If the community decide that it is a matter of priority to restrict parking on the grounds of amenity then surely that can be justified as an appropriate use of public money.
"We have been in discussions with both the borough and county council and will to continue to meet with them but we are not in a position to incur expenditure where we do not believe we have a legal obligation to do so."
