Gary Peters options are looking brighter with the return of Andy Cooke and Chris Humphrey to the first team squad.

Add to that a better performance and result on Saturday against Macclesfield which now sees Town sitting just outside the play-off slots.

ShrewsWeb spoke to GP this morning and the Town manager was pleased with the result but stressed there is still a way to go yet: "We've been working towards that performance and I think it just all came together on the day.

"The way we set out to play, the system we played and the way we've been trying to get better at passing is gradually working.

"We had no doubt that it would turn round but on Saturday it was more than a 2-0 win, it was a performance where the opposition didn't stretch us but we should really have taken more of our chances.

"On Saturday our movement was better with Stewart Drummond and Ben Davies were getting forward past the attackers.

"We've still got plenty to work on; the system was quite new to us and we have only used it in away games before."

Town were buoyed on Friday with the news that Andy Cooke had been given the all clear to resume training following his hamstring injury. It gives the Town manager another option but he's expecting it to be a few weeks before Cookey is fully available: "Andy Cooke is going to train with use all week but I think Wednesdays reserve game with West Brom maybe a bit early for him, but there's another game the week after that he should be involved in.

"Andy will need to get some games under his belt to get his fitness; Ben Davies had been doing so much fitness work during his rehabilitation that he had done a sort of pre-season. Cookey has been doing a lot of work to keep him fit but we've just got to make sure that we don't rush him back and he gets another injury not related to his current one.

"Until you are running correctly you can compensate for the injury that you've got and the majority of people who have been out for a while come back with a slight limp and that can put pressure on another part of the body."

Another addition to the first team squad is the return of Chris Humphrey after this loan spell with Stafford Rangers. Chris played the four Conference games for Stafford which saw results of 2 defeats and 2 draws, and an important point in Saturday's draw with Northwich which saw Rangers up a league place: "We've been keeping an eye on Chris during his time at Stafford and he's done well, he's back this week so we can keep an even closer eye on him.

"He'll be back in the reserves on Wednesday to play against his old club West Brom.

"It was only a month's loan for Chris and we wanted him to go out and get some league games, he's done that and when he's come back and trained with us he seems to have benefited from that time at Stafford."
