Guy Madjo
News started to break last night that Guy Madjo would be moving from Crawly Town to join Shrewsbury. The paperwork was finally completed late last night for him to join and to be eligible for the squad that takes on Hereford United on Sunday.
ShrewsWeb caught up with Guy after training this morning to speak to him about his move to join up with Shrewsbury Town: "The gaffer heard about me and read about me and made an enquiry for me but i don't know exactly where he saw me.
"I got a call from my club Crawley from Steve Evans saying that a League 2 club was interested in me.
"I told him i was interested but also spoke to Cheltenham but they weren't ready to do the deal permantely until the 19th.
"I spoke to everyone as i was under contract with Crawley until the end of the season, it then went very quickly and I'm pleased to be at Shrewsbury."
Guy started his career with Bristol City but didn't get the chance in the first team there. He made the short move to Forest Green Rovers before spells in the Conference with Stafford Rangers and finally with Crawley Town: "I'm a goal scorer and wherever I play and at whatever level I play i need to score goals.
"I then need to make sure that I keep on scoring goals but also keep my feet on the ground."
He has been training with Town for a couple of days now and has been impressed with the set-up and the reaction from his new team mates: "My first impressions have been good and I would like to thank everyone who has welcomed me in from day one.
"I hope everything goes really well now and I can help the club achieve what it is looking for.
"I'm sure that we are going to work hard together and make sure that everything goes right."
When Town take on Hereford United on Sunday Guy will be part of the squad and is looking forward to the next chapter in his career:"I'm now looking forward to being involved in the Hereford game tomorrow for my new club.
"It's taken a while for me to get back into the football League but now I'm here i want to stay.
"I'm going to make sure that I do everything that I can for the club to achieve that.
"I'm really looking forward to the Hereford game and hopefully from then on I can push on."
He has signed for Town on a 2 ½ year contract and is pleased with this as it will allow stability. It will also give him the chance to focus on the task ahead with Town in the Coca Cola League 2: "It is good to have a longer contract as it gives me stability and allows me to focus more in my job.
"When you have short contracts of a year or so you sometimes don't know what will happen.
"With a longer contract it takes away some of that thinking and makes you focus and make sure everything it right.
"It then allows you to get down to playing football and to take your chance."
Gary Peters spoke about Guy this morning and described him as a powerful, pacy striker with an eye for goal. The player agrees with this and is hoping that his attributes can strengthen the Town side: "I've got all the strength that a team would look for in a striker but I'm also quick and can pass defenders.
"I am physically strong but also I'm technical and can dibble, head the ball, jump, score, all the strengths that a team would want in a striker.
"I definitely hope that i can do well here and add to brining success to the team."
Guy has had the one call up to play for his home country of Cameroon when he was drafted in to replace Samuel Eto'o. He missed out of the squad for the African Cup of Nations but is hoping that he can do well with Shrewsbury and push back into the international side: "I've had the one call up for the Cameroon national team and that was a great honour.
"I was unlucky not to get into the squad for the African Cup of Nations but i will keep working hard to try and achieve that.
"I am still young and only 23 years of age, next summer i will be 24 years of age and i would hope to push to be a national team player.
"To achieve that i will need to do well at Shrewsbury and i will keep working hard to do everything right and if i do that then i am sure my time will come."
