Chris Humphrey has signed a new one year contract with Town which will take him up till the end of the 2008/9 season.
GP brought Chris to the club after he impressed the Town manager whilst playing for West Bromwich Albion in a reserve game against Town early last season.
The pacy winger has impressed in the reserves for Town and has shown a bit of what he can do in spells for the first team. He's continued to develop this season and in recent games has begun to show more and more of his potential.
Town manager Gary Peters spoke to ShrewsWeb about the news and revealed the reasons behind it: "It's great news that we've been able to renew Chris's contract for next season.
"We feel that he is in and around the side now and this will give him a little bit of confidence and feel that he's here for the long term.
"It means he can relax and continue to improve without having to force himself into contention for a contract at the end of the season."
The new contract is recognition of Chris's continued development and GP is hoping that the youngsters can start to show more in the first team: "He's still a bit raw but we can see the potential in him and by doing this he can relax and concentrate on his football.
"He had a spell on loan at Stafford Rangers and that did him the world of good, not only on footballing terms but it helps people realise that a good club Shrewsbury is.
"Chris has now got to take the reserve and training performances into the first team and we are starting to see signs that he can do that.
"If he can continue to do that them I'm sure that Chris has got a great future ahead of him."
