Tierney on awards
Marc Tierney walked away from the Player of the Year awards evening last night with the Players' Player of the Year and the Supporters Player of the Year awards.
It was recognition of the work the young left-back has put in over the season and the consistent performances that he has shown week in week out.
After picking up the award Marc spoke to BBC Radio Shropshire and ShrewsWeb listened in to get his thoughts: "To get the first award off the players is excellent because they see what goes in day in day out and I was over the moon with that one.
"Then to get the award from all the fans was the icing on the cake and I've got nothing but thanks for all the people who voted for me.
"As a full-back you can sometimes feel a little hard done to but tonight had to be my best ever in football."
The Players' Player of the Year is probably the most important award that a player can get as it is voted for by his team mates. Marc was made up to have won this but revealed who he had voted for and why: "I actually voted for Colin Murdock as I think he's been a real stalwart at the back in the 31 games he's played.
"I voted for him for the wisdom that he's given me this season to help me along.
"He's been there and done it, he's played at Championship level, he's played for Northern Ireland against the likes of England and he is very experienced.
"I've spent a lot of time with him this season and the pearls of wisdom he's given me have been helpful, when he's on the pitch he talks and he's taught me a lot.
"I think I've got to thank him a lot for helping me get these awards, I'm only 22 years of age but he's helped me become a lot wiser over the season."
When asked why he thought he had won the award Marc showed his modesty in his answer: "I've no idea why I've won the awards, you'd have to ask the lads and the fans why they voted for me.
"I go out there every week and give my all for the team and that's all you can do.
"I wear my heart on my sleeve, give it my best shot, and train as hard as I can to make myself the best player I can.
"I want to play at as high a level as I can and I would love to do that with Shrewsbury Town, with the stadium we've got, the vision of the chairman and the board and with the manager let's hope that can happen."
