Martin Wild continues his look back at Town's eventful 2007/08 season.

November

Gary Peters delved into the loan market once more to attract right winger Neil Wainwright to Shropshire from his parent club Darlington, but he was to make little impact, and returned to the North East after only a handful of mediocre performances.

Another high noon Sunday showdown loomed at strugglers Wrexham, and Town's best away following of the season (1276) saw Michael Symes grab a second half winner and give Shrewsbury their first win since mid-September. But Gary Peters was less than impressed at having to travel to Darlington for a Tuesday evening game so soon after the match in North Wales. This time, only around 120 made the journey and they were the unfortunate ones, as an abject performance from Town ended in another defeat by two goals to nil. The end of the game saw many in that small bunch of fans hurling abuse from the front of the stand and much of it was directed at Peters, who incredibly seemed quite content with his side's performance in his post-match assessment!

Lord Mawhinney - Chairman of the Football League - officially opened the new stadium in a ceremony on November 9th, and 24 hours later Shrews made another early cup exit when they lost 2-0 at Walsall. But it was fair to say that league points were far more important at this stage as Town were still languishing in mid-table.

Barnet turned up at the New Meadow in mid-month and Paul Fairclough's men again frustrated the home support - holding on until the 94th minute, when Symes plundered an unlikely winner for the home side. The third consecutive 2-0 away defeat came in a horror show at Rotherham to increase the pressure on the manager, but December was to bring about a change in fortunes when the team finally found their winning ways again.
