Game 46 came at Spotland and ended with Rochdale players milking the applause from the home fans with play-off games still to come. Hall headed Shrews in front, but typically they could not go on to win the match and had to settle for a point.

The irony was not lost on me. Twelve months prior, I had clapped my team off the pitch as I looked forward to a run in the play-offs and possible promotion. They were to end in defeat and disappointment. That same disappointment is mirrored in the summing up of the season just ended.

But I can't wait for August!
