There was a special visitor to the Prostar Stadium yesterday when 5 Live's Mark Clements came to the stadium to record this week's Coca-Cola Football League Podcast.

The Podcast launched earlier in the month with the idea of brining fans a weekly look at all things to do with the Coca-Cola Football League. Each week Clem brings together stories from all round the Leagues with special interviews and featured guests.

This week his guest for the half hour programme was Town manager Paul Simpson who spoke about the clubs start to the season and his career in football.

ShrewsWeb caught a quick word with Clem after he's finished recording the podcast to find out a little more about it: " We've been overwhelmed with the response from the fans to the podcast and I've been overwhelmed by the support from the clubs.

"The challenge for us is to get fans from clubs who are not featured in the podcast one week to listen to it regularly because rest assured we are going to going to visit at least half of the clubs in the leagues and cover all clubs.

"I think it's a vehicle that hasn't been there before for the fans and the beauty of it is how easy it is to get hold of."

In its first week the Podcast went straight to the top of the sports download charts despite tough oppositions from already established Podcasts. It also went into the top 10 of the overall audio podcasts which was a great achievement: "I was bowled over by the first week but that does show the power that the clubs have. By the time it had gone on the Football League website and by the time the 72 clubs had highlighted that it was available we had shot straight to the top of the sports podcast chart within two and a half days.

"That is no mean feat when you are up against the likes of 5 Live's Fighting Talk, 606, Guardian Football Weekly, the Times Game and other such established podcasts.

"It shows the interest that is out there for the Football League."

Each week the show is recorded at a different ground with Clem having visited Lincoln's Sincil Bank and Leeds Ellend Road so far. This week the Prostar Stadium was the chosen venue for the programme which is looking to give fans something a little different: "I've always loved coming to grounds and with 5 Live a few years ago I did the 92 grounds in one season.

"I love getting out and seeing people and when you come to grounds you see little things that you don't normally see on matchdays.

"Coming to the Prostar today and doing the Podcast means I've got to see a reserve game and somehow I'd never been to a reserve game before.

"The good thing about the Podcast is there will always be a good chunk about the club from where we are. You get the opinions of the person that I'm talking to and you get different perspectives than you would in a normal interview. We have the Bristol City manager Garry Johnson on this one and there are similarities between his and Simmo's managerial career.

"We also have Joe Lewis on today and that is kind of linked in with Shrewsbury because although Joe is a great keeper Shrewsbury fans would like to see Joe Hart get his full England cap before Joe Lewis does."

The majority of Football League clubs have been working together for a number of years on a number of initiatives in the media. The obvious one is the club websites where the clubs all work together to being fans the best online experience around. The Podcast is the newest example of what the clubs and the Football League can achieve: "The clubs websites and the local papers and radio do a brilliant job doing ball by ball coverage of their football club.

"We are not trying to do that what we are trying to do is the stories behind the headlines so listen out on this podcast for Paul's decorating tips! That came up early in the podcast and Paul is an advocate of emulsion over wallpaper as he's he had loads of moves during his football career.

"Hopefully the stories are strong enough that Shrewsbury fans will download the podcast because Paul is on it but will stay listening for the whole season as we are sure to be back later in the season as Shrewsbury are sure to be up there."
