Luke Daniels has been missing since has been missing from the Town line-up since the draw away to Accrington Stanley a couple of weeks ago.
He'd taken a knock at the end of the Port Vale game before that and needed stitches to a facial injury but also took a knock to the leg. He was ok to return for the AFC Bournemouth and Accrington game but has been suffering from a thigh problem since.
He's been coming through rehab since then and is improving but Town have highlighted a problem which looks to be why Luke is taking a little longer to get back to fitness.
ShrewsWeb spoke to Simmo this afternoon for an update an all things goalkeeping:"It's a slow one with Luke as there is more damage there than was first diagnosed.
"We are finding out more and we think it stems from the challenge that Luke had in the Port Vale game. He's had an internal bleed in his thigh which needs to be aspirated; there is a pocket of fluid inside the thigh muscle which needs to have a needle into it to get rid of it. Once that is done it will settle down and allow the tear that is there to heal
"We need to get a specialist to confirm that and once it's done we are looking at 3 to 4 weeks.
"West Brom are happy with him to stay here and are happy with the way he is being treated and that shows they are confident that we can look after him properly."
With Luke out it has meant a recall to the Town net for Glyn Garner and he's put in some decent performances. With two draws, two wins and two clean sheets since Glyn returned Town have looked solid in the games with Luton and Dagenham. Simmo is pleased with Glyn's performances but, as he is with all the players, he's looking for continual improvement: "The pleasing thing has been the clean sheets we've kept, we've gone back to defending properly and not allowing too much to come through to trouble Glyn.
"Glyn has done well when called on; he had a save early on in the Luton game which he did well to tip over the bar. On Tuesday there wasn't a hell of a lot to do but he did well on several crosses and cutting balls out.
"Towards the end he got a little sloppy and we've got to tighten that up, we don't want any sloppiness anywhere in side and don't want to be giving the opposition any chances."
With Scott Bevan and Jasbir Singh out on loan it has meant that Town only have the one fit keeper in Glyn Garner to call on. Simmo admits that it can be a bit nervy, especially when Glyn takes a knock like he did against Dagenham, but he's happy to monitor the situation for now: "It's a bit nervy I have to say but the situation we are in this weekend is that Scott Bevan is cup tied and Jaz Singh is still in the first 28 days of his loan at Hinckley.
"That may just open the door for young David Maguire to get a seat on the bench as there are 7 subs in the FA Cup.
"After that I'll see how it goes as we have Scott Bevan on a 24 hour recall but I don't see the point in recalling unless I'm going to play him. I'll leave it as it is for now as he's getting games and will be getting better for that."
There are a couple of news updates ahead of the weekend's trip to take on Blyth Spartans in the FA Cup. Mike Jackson will be available after the FA confirmed that he has only got 4 yellow cards. Gylfi Sigurdsson though will miss the game as Reading don't want the loan player to become cup tied.
