Michael Symes has gone out on a month's loan to fellow Coca Cola League 2 side AFC Bournemouth.
Symes had started the season well and was competing with Dave Hibbert for a place in the Town forward line. Symesy picked up an injury in training which kept him out for a while and since then he has struggled to get back that early season form.
Town manager Paul Simpson broke the news to ShrewsWeb this afternoon and revealed that the move was to freshen things up in the squad: "I've decided that Michael Symes can go out on loan to AFC Bournemouth. It's not just because of last week's result; there are things that need to be done to freshen the squad up.
"We have a big squad and I felt that the opportunity for Michael to go and get a month out on loan at Bournemouth will do him the world of good. It also gives me the chance to clear a space to bring somebody else in as well."
The Town manager is hoping that the move will do be good for Symesy and allow him to get first team football. He wants to see a positive reaction from Symes to prove that he is worthy of a place in the Town starting line-up: "It's been a little bit frustrating to be honest as I felt Michael had got himself to a level where I thought he was going to push on but he then got injured. Since coming back my opinion is that he hasn't got near to that level again.
"Michael is at a point now where he's got two options, he can either go out and show me that he is going to work hard to get himself to a level where he is going to be effective for us or the decision is made long term that he isn't going to be right for us.
"I want to see a reaction from him as I want to have people who are pushing for a starting line-up in the squad."
