Midfielder Leaves

Posted on: Thu 08 Jan 2009

David Hunt has left the club after agreeing a settlement to the remainder of his contract as Simmo looks to strengthen his squad.

Hunty came in to Town in the summer of 2007 and has shown glimpses of the player he is but his time at the club has been hampered by a number of little injuries.

He is out of contract in the summer but after discussions between himself and Simmo both parties agreed to settle the remainder of the contract.

The deal was agreed this afternoon and Simmo revealed the news to ShrewsWeb:" We've been talking to David Hunt over the last week about settling his contract and we have now come to an agreement.

"He's a player who I have had a good look at and I've decided that he isn't quite what we are looking for.

"At the moment it's a case of looking at ways that we can be saving money with a view to bring in players who we think will make us better.

"David's family didn't settle up here and this caused a few problems which meant that he was looking to get back down to London so I felt it was beneficial for both parties if we could come to an agreement.

"We've come to an agreement on the remainder of David's contract and have compensated him for what we call lose of office and we now move on."

Things looked good for Hunty over the pre-season after working hard he was firmly in Simmo's pre-season plans. Once again an injury put pay to this with a knee problem taking a few months to finally sort out: "If you look over David's whole career with Shrewsbury town it has been littered with little injury problems. That hasn't been the case in the rest of career so it has just been an unlucky time here.

"My first game in charge away at Macclesfield I put David in as I felt he had something to offer and he ended going off with conclusion and a shoulder injury that he never really recovered from last season.

"We discussed him leaving in the summer to go back down south as there was the possibility of him signing for a club in London but in the end that didn't happen.

"He came back in and worked hard over pre-season but then got injured the day before the season started.

"He's come in and his attitude is spot on and I genuinely wish him the best and hope he gets settled down back down south and it helps his family and he gets himself a club to continue his career."
