Nick Chadwick

Posted on: Fri 09 Jan 2009

News broke this morning that Town had secured the services of striker Nick Chadwick until the end of the season.

Nick had trained with Town yesterday after being brought in by Paul Simpson and did enough to earn the short term deal.

ShrewsWeb grabbed a word with Nick before training to see how the move had come around: "I left Hereford and was looking to move to a club which was progressive and positive and thankfully Paul Simpson got in touch.

"I came and trained yesterday and I'm made up to be able to sign for the club."

In his interview with ShrewsWeb this morning Simmo revealed that he had enquired about Nick over the summer. The Staffordshire based striker was aware of the interest but wanted to play in League 1 so chose a move to Edgar Street to join Hereford: "There was fair bit of interest at League 2 level in the summer and had I know then what I know now and looked around the place then something may have happened then.

"In the summer the aim was to stay in league 1 as I was coming out of the Championship.

"I went to Hereford as they was in league 1 and was hoping that they could continue the good form that had seen them win promotion.

"It didn't really happen like that and I didn't really get the chance that I thought I would do.

"I've now come to League 2 level but the surroundings and set-up at Shrewsbury is a really good league 1 set-up at least.

"To come to the club now with them scoring goals and doing well is really perfect for me."

The Shrewsbury Town of 2009 is a different proposition to the club of a few years ago. The move to the Prostar Stadium and the investment in training facilities makes is easy for Simmo to sell the club to prospective new signings: "You look at Shrewsbury now and it's not a club that really needs to be sold to a player.
"The stadium is excellent as are the training facilities and the manager is a top class manager.

"I worked with the lads in training yesterday and they seemed a top set of lads and the results prove that they are doing well.

"Once I'd come here and seen the place I couldn't wait to sign for the club."

The contract that Nick has signed is only until the end of the season but he is hoping that it could be longer. His hope is to cement a place in the Town line-up and believes that if he can then the goals will come: "After the time I had over last season I need to get games and I need to be playing, that's what I went to Hereford for but that didn't happen.

"Coming into a forward looking team hopefully means that I can now get that chance.

"I'm here until the end of the season but if things go well then hopefully if can be a lot longer.

"In the short term I'm looking forward to playing football, scoring goals and helping the club to move on."

At 26 years of age Nick is still quite young and with his schooling at Everton and Plymouth he still believes he has a lot to offer. His games at Plymouth were restricted by injuries but he's been training all season and wants to help Town onto success: "I'm only 26 years of age and had a fantastic record when I was a youngster at Everton and played a number of times in the first team and scored goals.

"I then went to Plymouth and started off well under Tony Pullis, I played around 40 games under him and things were going quite well.

"Once he left Ian Holloway came in and that's when my injuries started, for the last 18 months there it was a bit stop and start and mainly substitute appearances.

"The last 12 months there were hit by injuries and it was no surprise when I left the club.

"That's all behind me now and I've trained everyday this season and am fit and fine and chomping at the bit to go out.

"Everyone wants to be playing at the highest level and when you've had a taste of it that's where you want to be.

"I want to do well here and I want to be playing at a decent level with Shrewsbury Town because everything here is set to achieve that."
